So my application is complete at the following schools

Weill, NYU, RFU, Rush, NYMC, Northwestern

I don't know if I will get interivews at many of these schools but when might I expect to hear about interviews/rejection? here are my stats:

B.S. in Biochem from UMich (2002)
GPA: 3.51
BCPM:3.40

M.S. in Biochem from UMich
GPA: 3.84
BCPM: 3.81

MCAT: VR 9, PS 10, BS 12, N

one publication, volunteer work at UMich hospital+nursing homes, worked at Rockefeller University in NYC (manuscript in preparation), UG activities include more research, scholarship chair of sorority, community service club, pretty strong LORs

this process is such a crapshoot 🙁

oh yeah-my app was complete at the end of last week for most of these schools (8/17 at Weill)

For the schools Ive gained interviews at it took over a month... be patient. Good stats though, I doubt you will recieve many pre-interview rejections.

I really hope you applied to more than just those schools.
You said it yourself, its a crapshoot.

It could be anytime between now and February (maybe even March). If your stats are below the school's average you may get shunted to a "hold" group and invited later in the season. Compare your stats with the MSAR.

There is the possibility that you'll just be in limbo until pre-interview rejection letters go out in the Spring.

How do you know you're complete at NU? Did you get an email?

They update your application status daily (or, "daily") on their secondary app website.

I applied to twelve schools-those are just the schools where my app is complete. My husband has a job offer in Chicago after he graduates from law school so I really really want to get in to a Chicago school. I sent all of the Chicago med schools a letter informing them of our situation...

Good deal. I am sure that will help.

TOMORROW.

Heh. Or not.

Sigh. I've been completed at UNC and Weill for a few weeks and nothing.

the more times you check your email or snail mail a day, the longer it seems. take it from someone who checks their gmail 3 times an hour and opens the door for the mail man every day

That's *exactly* what I was thinking. If we're this bad now, what is it going to be like down the road when it's actually realistic to be hearing from schools...

I have a Mac, so there is a little button you can click to bring up a bunch of little nifty programs, including Gmail notifier.

I click on that thing about 20 times an hour.

good luck with Northwestern. I had better stats, and I was waitlisted until the end of time. 🙁 I never even heard from Rush or Weill, so I echo the comment of "I hope you applied more than just to those."

Where are you in med school? I applied to UIC, Albert Einstein, BU, Loyola, UChicago, Tufts and the schools I mentioned in my original post (12 total). I really want to get in to a Chicago school (my husband has a job offer there).

got in at UWisc and MCW, and I'm at MCW. I really wanted to go to a Chicago school too, so I applied to three.....but Rush and Loyola rejected me post-sec and Feinberg waitlisted me.

do you love mcw? when do they start inviting people for interviews? I'm from the milwaukee area and I would love to come back for medical school

heh, well, it wasn't my first choice, but while I wanted to leave Milwaukee for a little while, this is definitely where I have always wanted to do my residency. invites went out on September 1 last year for the earliest invites (October 7th was interview #1).

Thanks! I've been out of Milwaukee for college, and MCW is very appealing to me. I'm not sure if it's my first choice as I've only visited one medical school, but it's up there, if only because of location

with those stats you are in good shape at Chicago's RFU. i think RFU sends interview invites starting early sept...

I just stare at my Gmail now waiting for the ever so wonderful (1) to appear.

The greatest joy in life=Gmail Inbox (1). Mine too. WOW. Do you have the little tiny custom icon (GMAIL notifier) at the corner of your computer?

Doesnt your heart just beat from 55 to 150 after you see it go dark blue? Or is that just me?

Who else gets really pissed off when they see junk like SAVE 50% TODAY AT AMAZON.COM? haha.

oh ya, i use to..today, i have totally blocked all those now.

RFU is quite a ways away from downtown Chicago - probably at least 45 minutes without any traffic (which is asking a lot). NU is right on the lake, Rush is not far from the freeway (a few miles in), and Loyola's a little farther west, IIRC.

Loyola's about 10-20 min out of the city, depending on traffic. Its in Maywood, which is somewhat of a crummy neighborhood. Loyola has awesome facilities, though.

Yeah, my husband lived right by NU this summer. If RFU is the only school I get into we'll probably live in a Northern suburb and commute. We're both from NYC so a commute that is less than 45 minutes seems easy to us.

Hopefully having a Masters degree and non-traditional background will help me out. Also, majoring in Biochem at Michigan was tough. Will adcoms recognize this? My classes were above and beyond the pre-med requirements. Why didn't I major Cell Bio-I would've had at least a 3.7 🙁
