So, I've been accepted to 4 DO schools, which I am super excited about and would be pumped to attend any one of them. However, there is one MD school that I had an interview at and I really want to go there because I have family in the area that I am very close with. My stats are...awkward. I received a 509 on the MCAT, cGPA 3.7 but sGPA 3.4. Worse is that my science GPA only improved recently with my 4.0 fall grades in med micro, eukaryotic micro, genetics lab, and bio of fungi (I'm still in undergrad). I'm very aware that I don't have mushroom for flaws in my application with my questionable sGPA... 😉 I'm wondering if people think that the MD I interviewed at will accept me or not? I've recently received a few MD rejection emails from other schools pre-interview, so my confidence is low for the MD acceptance :/

-Biology Tutor as a freshman for 7 months; promoted to be the head of all the bio tutors at my university
-250 hours of hospital volunteering (100 at one hospital and 150 at another)
-No publications at time of original application submission, but a recent publication that I updated the school on
-1.5 years in an infectious disease microbiology lab (1 poster presentation)
-3 yrs as a health informatics research assistant (2 poster presentations)
-30ish hrs shadowing
-1 yr as treasurer of Scientista (we promote women in science)
-1 semester as a research assistant in a neuroscience lab in fall 2017, which I also updated the school on.

This school has an instate bias (as many do) and I'm considered out of state, but I grew up in that state for about 7 years.

Well, you EC's are pretty nice-- which is a good reason you probably got the interview. I don't know which school it is, but I think at this point it comes down to your interview and whether or not they feel you fit the school's mission.

Thanks, that's reassuring to hear you think so. My one concern however, is that this school was my first interview and therefore probably my worst interview due to nerves. Still presentable, but not as great as the following interviews.

That’s not wat what awkward means, no one knows until crunch time if you get in or not. Good luck

Interviews are a level playing field. If they interview you it is because they deem you smart enough to go there. Now it is about how well you interviewed and how they feel you would fit in at the school

I don't think it's true that interviews are a "level playing field." Based on what I've read on here, the post-interview applicant profile review is holistic and includes not only interview performance but also grades, MCAT, ECs, etc. Interviews are most likely higher-stakes for applicants with lower stats.

At their interviews, applicants with low-ish stats probably have the burden of proving that their positive personal qualities outweigh their academic deficiencies. Meanwhile, applicants with high stats probably only have to demonstrate that they don't have severe social problems, wrong-headed beliefs, unrealistic expectations, etc.

Why would a school interview you if they didn’t think you were smart enough to go to med school?

There are far more applicants who are smart enough to succeed in medical school than there are open slots at any given medical school. Adcoms have the luxury of being able to weigh applicants' intelligence against their other traits. Interviews add another dimension to a holistic applicant review process; they don't create a level playing field.

I’m sure we could argue/discuss this for a while. My point is if you are not deemed smart enough to go there you will not get an interview. Interviews are much more about personality and the ability to talk to people. Anyway the OP can heed whatever advice they want to since this forum is mostly opinion.

This is impossible to answer! Your acceptance is 100% on you.

Thank you for everyones' replies! However, I think we only confirmed I'm in a weird limbo, which is what I thought before I posted XD. I think I'll find out pretty soon how it turns out.
