Your community service hours are low for Rush and Loyola, but I think you are good for Rosalind Franklin. Why are they not a school you would consider?

I would consider Rosalind Franklin. The only IL schools I wasn’t considering were SIU and Carle. Other than HBCUs (which I will be applying to), which other OOS schools do you recommend I should add to my list?Welcome to the forums.

Tell me more about what you expect to do as a medical student that gets you closer to being prepared for residency regardless of specialty. What are you looking for? Are there places that you would summarily rule out (rural? urban? state politics?)? What schools do your SMP faculty suggest?I would consider Rosalind Franklin. Have you networked with SNMA or any mentoring organization for aspiring Black (male?) physicians? We often post scholarship opportunities in the Underrepresented forum, and SNMA is active with virtual programs and their in-person conferences.

Thank you Faha, I did not think that I would have a chance at some of the schools you have mentioned since my cGPA is well below their averages. Is it still worth to apply even if I’m in the very bottom percentile in that category?I suggest these schools with your stats:

Also in regards to your question Mr. Smile, I expect to integrate science knowledge into clinical practice and participate in various volunteering opportunities that appeal to the less fortunate such as myself. My SMP faculty hasn’t been of much help in my search for MD programs as a few advisors have mentioned that I should just apply to instate MD and a bunch of DO schools since my SMP gpa isn’t outstanding on top of my subpar uGPA. Wasn’t sure what to do so I decided to post on here and listen to some feedback. Would prefer to not go to a program in a rural area. I am a black male and I just recently started to look into SNMA, I am still new to this application process and will continue to explore what SNMA has to offer.
Yes. The URM Black applicant pool is small and only ~150 apply every year with a MCAT of 514+ AND a GPA of 3.5+. That is only 1 per MD school.Thank you Faha, I did not think that I would have a chance at some of the schools you have mentioned since my cGPA is well below their averages. The top tier schools do desire some diversity in their classes, especially those in cities with a large Black patient population.

Interesting, when you put it like that it does make sense. So in my case, should I not really even worry about applying to DO schools? I didn’t want to initially but like I said I was advised to apply to a good amount of DO schools as well.Yes.
