😕 first of all, ask yourself: are you a hygienist or a dentist?? you are a dentist!!! are you happy being a hygienist?? Sincerely, I've been in US it's been 4 years this month... well, after taking NBDE part 1, TOEFL, get my GPA and whatever else I needed to apply for dental schools and also trying to explain the whole process to my family and friends...I worked as a dental assistant and sincerely I felt so depressed and stupid...simply because: well, I AM NOT A DENTAL ASSISTANT(I used to ask myself: did I study 5 years to clean materials, suck saliva...) OR A HYGIENIST!! I AM A DENTIST!! So, basically, I studied hard and didn't have great status but I reached what I wanted anyways, that it was coming back to my profession...I am in dental school now and in the clinic I have blasts...Sooo nice to be what you are and not being something else...The best: getting respect from people...Well, think about all this and then decide what is best for you...Good Luck!!

This was my experience...Hope it helps...
