i am a foreign trained dentist.i havebeen in canada for only 1year.i am not sure what i should choose:to persue dentist or dental hygiene.i am a new comer after all and face with many problems including language.anyone can give me any advices.thanks.

A lot depend on where you live now.It is easyer to become a hygenist in Toronto. In Vancouver there is a waiting list.Do not forget that there is an overproduction of hygenists and it is difficult to find a job and salary went down to 35 per hour, used to be 42-45.You can find out in the College of Dental Surgeons of BC how to become Certified dental assistant for now.How old are you?You can try to pass licensing exams to be a dentist, if you are ready.

😕 first of all, ask yourself: are you a hygienist or a dentist?? you are a dentist!!! are you happy being a hygienist?? Sincerely, I've been in US it's been 4 years this month... well, after taking NBDE part 1, TOEFL, get my GPA and whatever else I needed to apply for dental schools and also trying to explain the whole process to my family and friends...I worked as a dental assistant and sincerely I felt so depressed and stupid...simply because: well, I AM NOT A DENTAL ASSISTANT(I used to ask myself: did I study 5 years to clean materials, suck saliva...) OR A HYGIENIST!! I AM A DENTIST!! So, basically, I studied hard and didn't have great status but I reached what I wanted anyways, that it was coming back to my profession...I am in dental school now and in the clinic I have blasts...Sooo nice to be what you are and not being something else...The best: getting respect from people...Well, think about all this and then decide what is best for you...Good Luck!!:luck:
This was my experience...Hope it helps...

Nowadays jobs are very difficult for dental assistants and when there are lots of dentists out there, I wonder how can a dental hygienist get a job.
Think of the duties a dental hygienist perform.Even a general dentist do only cleaning, filling it's not a big deal.PPL are going for post graduation now.

i get a lot of confidence from all of you, thank you very much.i will consider your useful advice.

You need to find what is best for you.If you have enough money to stay home and study, English and exams, then you can become a dentist. If you are a woman with children or money are an issure - forget it.The hardest part is to get to the right state of mind.If you have money, children, family problems added to the stress of exams, result will be poor. When I came to Canada, I was advised to become a dentist. It is my 9th year and I just got accepted to the university. It could have taken me only 2.5 years to earn hygine license and avoid working for a bunch of ass holes.

😀 thank you for the inspiration
