I was born in India. Came to the United States at the age of 4. I lived in a joint family until the age of 14, and I got arranged married at 18. Yes, I know. My parents were very strict growing up with their cultural views and I did not have the nerve to stand up to them at that time. After high school, my dad wanted me to drive a truck like he does so he would not have to pay for my college and living expenses. So I decided to try my best to pay for myself and to pay off my loans.

I have worked 20-30 hrs/week at my uncle's company since 18 (now 24) to support myself and my wife, who worked at a salon

I got into a great university (around 3 hrs away from home), but still came home every weekend or whenever I could to work. I had a good clerical job as a dispatcher and made decent money I could not make anywhere else.
First two years my GPA was 3.50.

Then I transferred closer to my home to a better university so I could be closer to my wife and be closer to my work. This is where things turned south. I did very poorly this year trying to adjust to a new environment while trying to work more hours and my relationship with my wife started going downhill due to problems with money.

4th year, as I adjusted to the new environment my gpa improved. 3.52 for the year

I needed one more year to graduate due to my poor 3rd year.

my 5th year, I took my fall quarter off and shadowed two doctors and worked trying to save up money. The last two quarters of my 5th year, I only took a total of 5 classes and did part time. 3.3 for the year

During the summer, me and my wife decided to get a divorce, and I had only 3-4 more GEs to complete to graduate, but I chose to withdraw from the university to get my mind back on track again, while working and making money to pay back loans.

It has almost been a year since I withdrew and will reinstate and officially graduate during this upcoming summer. (only have 3-4 GEs remaining in order to graduate)

-my total undergrad gpa is 3.38 and my practice MCAT scores have been around 512 (taking on June 16).
-I have around 200 hrs of hospice this year
-I have been a member of a volunteer clinic (~100 hrs)
-I am training to be a medical scribe and will start in one month
-have shadowed two doctors
-was a gen chem tutor for one quarter my second year
-have always had a job since I was 18

I know my extracurriculars aren't excellent.
what should I do?
I really want to apply for medical school this upcoming summer. Do you guys think I would have a chance given my circumstances + 508+ mcat? Or should I take another year to get more experience and perhaps take loan and do a DIY post bacc.
@Goro
Thank you for your time

Your intelligence and hard work is evident from your story. Is your gpa perfect? No but how many college students are working to support a family and commuting 3+ hours? However the gpa really isn't putting you out of contention, and is within range for most schools. Plus if you rock the MCAT that hard, it should make up for the lackluster gpa. I think what will be key for you is the personal statements. If you can illustrate your story in a compelling way, your chances to earn an acceptance are very high. Osteopathic schools tend to show some love to non-traditional students, so I think you are in really good shape.

I'm excited to hear what someone more knowledgeable people has to say. Good luck!

Take the MCAT. Your GPA isn’t going to hold you back from the vast majority of DO schools if you have a solid MCAT. I’d also start thinking about LORs since you may not have a committee letter. The most stringent DO LOR requirement I came across was two science letters, one non science, one physician (some but not most require a DO rather than MD letter).

With a sold MCAT score I think you can absolutely apply this summer. Good luck!
