Hello everyone!
I finally got accepted to some dental schools and wanted to share the summary of my DAT preparation. I hope this helps!
Overall I studied about three to four months for the test, first month or two, I only studied about 4 hours a day on average the last month I probably studied about 10-12 hours a day.

My scores:

AA:25 TS:28 PAT:20 Bio: 30 GC:25 OC:29 Reading:20 QR:21

Biology

-Kaplan blue book (better for physiology chapters)

-cliff Ap Bio (great resource except for physiology chapters)

-Destroyer (the format of questions are not the same as the actual DAT but it helps to cover material)

-DAT Qvault (I highly suggest this, I only purchased the bio section, it was amazing resource, the format of questions are the most similar to the actual DAT)

-DATBootCamp

-campbell text book (I referred back to my text book for topics that I felt I needed more info, or better pictures and explanation)

-Feralis notes (condensed biology notes that are great for reviewing material, I highly suggest to read the notes. I studied few pages of this before I go to sleep) you can find these on DAT Bootcamp website.

My general Advice for Bio: The format of questions on the Actual DAT is kind of weird. Sometimes you may have to read the question few times to understand what its asking. Try to do as many bio questions as you can, the more resources you can practice, the better! I made my own notes during my studies and I reviewed my notes weekly.

Gen Chem and Ochem

I took my gen chem and ochem classes four years prior taking my test so I had to reteach myself everything.

Best best best invest of my life: Chad’s videos

This guy is awesome! I watched his videos for gchem and ochem once and took very detailed notes. I reviewed my notes on a weekly base. I practice the quizzes twice, Once after watching the videos and second time a month before my test. Sometimes if I still felt that I was not good in a topic, I would go back and watch chad’s video for that section.

Also I used Destroyer. I went over the questions twice.

I think if someone studies chad’s videos and destroyer for these two topics they are set! I also used DAT bootcamp.

The actual DAT had a really easy ochem. And gchem was very doable.

PAT

I purchased the crack dat pat with tutorials. The tutorials were helpful for sure.

CDP is super easy, much easier the actual pat on dat. I recommend starting with CDP.

DATBOOTCAMP PAT section is the most similar I had seen prior to my test. I wish I practiced more with that. I highly recommend going over the practice test at least twice.

Reading Comprehension

English is not my first language, so I had a hard time preparing for this section. I used Crack DAT Reading. And DATBootcamp. You have to practice this and find a way that works the best for you. There are some different ways explained on DATBOOTCAMP website.

QR

I used Math Destroyer and DAT destroyer. The math is super easy on DAT, the only issue is timing.

The questions are not hard; they just take time to solve. I highly recommend timing yourself when doing practice exams.

QR is the last section of the test, so by the time you get to this section you are exhausted. In order to get used to this, I always studied math or did math problems at the end of the day when I was preparing for my test.

Other materials used:

TopScore Pro: used this last week before my test only to get used to sitting down for like 5 hours and take the DAT, basically your body/brain get used to it. But keep in mind that its much much easier than the actual DAT.

ADEA free DAT sample test

Free OAT sample test

I recommend that you study each topic everyday. And use marker instead of pen or pencil. Try to mimic the test condition as much as you can.

Congrats Predental. Could you possibly post your study schedule for us? I think many people such as myself would find it extremely useful. Currently I am in the process of trying to put together a study schedule for this exam. Thanks

so I constantly changed my study schedule during my studies. It really depends on your background. for example if you are like me and took your gen bio, chem, and ochem classes long time ago and dont remember anything you may need more time.
I spent about two months to study and re-teach myself everything.
I highly suggest you finish learning material a month before your test and thats what I did.
I finished AP bio, chad's videos and kaplan blue book and cdp and cdr a month before my test.
during the last month I just reviewed my notes and solved problems and did practice exams everyday.
I made sure I studied each subject everyday.
for example 2 hours of bio, 2 hours of gchem, 2 hours of ochem, 1 hour of pat, 1 hour reading comprehension , 1 hour of math...per day

Wow great scores!! Do you mind if I ask what your scores on the practice exams were?
so my highest scores ever was on the actual DAT
I never ever scored this high during practice tests...
on practice exams the highest i ever got was like 23 or 24 (barely)
I mostly scored in range of 19-22

Congrats predental!!! U did awesome job like you English is not my first language & I have too much stress for RC if u can add any more comments in this part please let me know. Thx

Congratulations on your scores 🙂 You must be so relieved to have it done and over with! Thanks for the awesome breakdown. For RC, it's my weakest point, so I'm wondering (just like Ashkan) if you can elaborate a bit more on how you conquered this section (English isn't my first language either). Did you find Bootcamp or CDR most helpful? Was the actual DAT easier than Bootcamp or CDR? What was your strategy? Thank you so much in advance 🙂

Congratulations on some solid scores Predental! Which of the sources do you think helped you more for the Reading section? Thanks

Wow your scores improved by a lot! Did you study a lot after taking those practice tests? Why did you think the practice tests were easier than the actual DAT? I'm sorry for all the questions!
so I believe the science portion of the actual DAT (Bio, GC, OC) and math section were easier than my prep materials but the PAT section and Reading of the actual test were more difficult...
during the last week before my test i made sure i worked on my weaknesses... I reviewed my notes and made sure i was timing myself when practicing

Ashkan Jan!
I was most nervous about my Reading too...
I researched the different strategies used by other students for this section on SDN, then I practiced them with the CDR and compared my scores
I realized for ME its the best if I read the article first and then go through the questions...
also it helps if you start reading science articles everynight before you go to sleep or during your free time...
the reading section of my test was so difficult... one of the articles was about quantum physics... I totally panicked during my test... and i thought with myslef that i have to retake the test... the key is not to panic and just try to answer as many as you can and guess the ones you dont know...

I think the actual DAT was more difficult than CDR and DBC
but If you find the best strategy that works the best for you, you will be fine

Predental jan and Ashkan jan 🙂: What is CDR in reading portion of the DAT.
Predental jan can you please tell me which university you got the admission from?
Thanks

CDR stands for Crack DAT Reading. one of the prep materials I used for Reading section of the DAT.

Congrat on your score 😀!!!! I see that you said for physiology, KBB should be better, does DAT emphasize that part during the test? Thank you and congrat again!

Thank you so much!
yes! you should study the physiology chapters very well. I used KBB for those and sometimes I even referred back to my General Biology Text book (campbell)
then I used destroyer and datqvault for practicing questions and also I highly recommend Feralis notes to review.
I also made my own review notes and reviewed them constantly!

Very solid scores. Congrats. Can I borrow your science scores? 😛
What was your strategy for reading? Did you read the questions first? Did you read the whole passage or just scanned it?
Thanks

I read the passage first very carefully, then I answered questions. I figured that would work the best for me.
but it is important to focus when you are reading the passage so you can answer the questions or refer back to the passage if you need a detail or something
