My DAT Destroyer came today!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi Everyone,

I am a pre-optometry student taking my OAT on Nov. 4 and in the need of practice materials I ordered the DAT Destroyer. Everyone on this forum has been praising about this book so I decided to give it a try. I have only started on the ochem section so I can't give future purchasers any input. I will write some feebacks after my exam.

For those of you that have used DAT Destroyer, what method of studying worked for you? Should I just keep doing problems over and over?

Thanks everyone!

I did 30 problems a day for each section until I was finished. For example: after finishing 30 problems for GC, I would go to the solutions and see what I did wrong, write down the solutions AND THE LOGIC behind the solutions.

For Organic Chem, I made flashcards for each of the 152 problems...but they weren't just lame "memorization cards", the back side had detailed solutions that told me WHY it was SN1, and not SN2 (just an example). I also did the Road maps by taking out fresh printer paper, drawing only the steps and filling in the rest. I did it until I was dreaming about them all night. For the Road Maps, I also wrote what type of reaction it was over each arrow b/c I like to categorize things in my simple mind.

For Bio: any multiple choice answer that was foreign, strange, or that I got wrong, I would look it up in Campbell and learn it...The Funny thing is that the solutions to the questions for BIO were often times better b/c they were more succint and clear than reading a textbook - go figure!

By the way: pay close attention to the traps Dr. Romano shows you to avoid in Destroyer...these traps are important to understand.

I just got my dat destroyer and have been using it everyday. All I do is go over the questions and basically memorize all of the correct statements. Also I was wondering when something is an enantiomer what is its possible structure in a fischer ?? RS, SR?

For studying the Destroyer, I found that the best method is to do a group of questions at one sitting, and then go check those answers in the back until you are clear on every aspect of the question. I would then rotate between the GChem, Orgo, Bio and Math sections, until I finished the whole book. Then I reviewed it again and again because there is so much valuable information that you just want to make sure you got everything. Either way of studying the book is fine though; and the important thing is just to make sure you understand all the concepts clearly and you know how to do every question in the book. Good luck!!
