hey everyone! i just finished recuperating (sp?) from the hellish experience that is the DAT. I am very happy with my scores, i got an
overall academic average of 23
and a science average of 23,
PAT 21
Orgo 21
Bio 22
chem 29
math 21
reading 22
GPA 3.96
science GPA 3.92
. one thing i have to say on the pat is that the angles are a raping, to put it mildly. overall, everything is a couple of levels harder than on the topscore pat also, but i thought that the keyhole, orthographic projections and shape folding were on par with the kaplan book and test. as for the quant, i got a 21, and i found it to be exactly like the math on the topscore (i am living proof that the topscore is a lifesaver...i went from a 15 on the math to the 21). the reading was the same as the topscore, and the only thing that threw me off on the science was that the bio was very specific questions such as intermediates in glycolysis and specific blood factors and carbonate buffers. lots of ecology, not too much classification, which was nice, but overall, pretty much the same as topscore. for everyone taking the test coming up, make sure you study your ecology and EVOLUTION!!! they always like a question or two on genetic drift for some reason. i hope that i will get into the university of connecticut, but i am also applying to schools in new york. i'm so glad that this application process is over!

Congrats, with those scores I'm sure you will be accepted anywhere you want.

This message board makes me feel like a big ass.

Congrats on the scores though!!

HORRIBLE scores! Just joking, way to go! I see acceptance letters in your near future.

i studied for the DAT casually in june and july and then i studied 5-6 hours a day for august and september until i took the test. i thought the test was really killer hard and its good to be done with it and move on with my life🙂

congradulation.

i would actually like to go to SUNY stony brook because i would like to stay close to home. i'm not sure what kinds of scholarships are being offered, but anything is always greatly appreciated!😉 where are you concidering applying?

catwoman,

just out of curiosity, have you also considered med school? with your stats, i think that you would be a very fine med school candidate as well.

Can a person not be interested in dental school if she has a really high GPA?

personally, i would prefer to be a neuro-surgeon if i had such high GPA and scores.

with those kind of scores, i am sure you would do great on MCAT as well.

Gavin, there are probably many people that have gone toward a field simply because the field that they desired due to things such as a low GPA. I am not saying that perfect is one of those people but realistically I can imagine many people taking these alternate routes to success.

to answer everyone's question, yes, i do feel that if i applied to medical school i would be able to succeed, but i don't want to. personally for me, i think that medical school and ultimately becoming a doctor is too much of a life committment, and i want to live my life as well as be someone in the health profession. you can help people and not have the most prestigious profession, (like a neurosurgeon), and besides, everyone needs a dentist, and its a great carreer, i think because there are many options in the field. i will be satisfied to be a dentist and do a good job at it and enjoy my life too. now that we're asking the question, why have you guys decided to become dentists? (this is a serious question)🙂

i didn't mean to put dentistry down or anything. i think that both careers are very exciting and promising. its not that i wanted to be a neurosurgeon or anything, i guess i was just using that as an anology to something harder or more challanging than dentistry.

personally, i chose dentistry simply because its fun, challanging, exciting, you never know what you come across, always new solutions, and more importantly you don't have to wait days or weeks to finish a treatment. i like it because in most cases you can diagnose and do the treatment the same day and you are able to complete the job rather quickly.

no offense taken. we all have our reasons for a profession 😉 and i'm sure everyone who is in this forum is serious about dentistry unless they wouldn't be taking the time to help out others. i think its great that people can post whats on their mind.
