First, I would like to thank everybody on this board that helped me get through the DATs. I can't believe, I took it today and I am done now. I was shaking after the test and could barely speak.

I'll post some details later on but here are my scores. Please let me know what you think. Thanks

PAT: 18 🙁
QR: 18
RC: 15 😡 😡
BIO: 23👍
GC: 21
OC: 25 👍
TS: 23
AA: 20

A note about RC section: I am highly disappointed in a 15 but can't do anything about it anymore. I was really mad about the fact that the font used to display the topics was not more than a 9. I could barely read and my eyes were a few inches away from the monitor that made it really hard for me to concentrate. Did anybody else experience the same issue?

Again, thank you so much everybody for all the help and support.

Do you think that 15 in RC is going to hurt me a lot? And what about the PAT score?

My Science GPA is 3.67, non science: 3.65, and my cGPA is 3.60.

Update

I started studying for the DATs during the first week of august and was really worried that I may not have enough time to cover everything. I actually didn't study any ochem because I took orgo I and II over the summer so that stuff was pretty fresh in my head. I spent majority of my time studying biology because I didn't know like half the Kaplan book. I used Kaplan to study for mostly everything. I also used some selected material from schaum's biology. For the Gen Chem section, I only used Kaplan and that was more than enough. For the PAT section, I mostly used Kaplan's book and bought achiever 10 days before my test. I also used Kaplan subject tests for practice. So all in all, I used Kaplan for pretty much everything and then practiced with achiever towards the end.

Here's what I thought of the DAT:

Bio: I actually didn't expect to do any better than a 19 or 20 on this section but was quite surprised when saw a 23 pop up on the screen. I had the famous sea urchin question. I didn't have any ecology on the exam but had good amount of genetics. I also had a couple questions about the muscle system and a couple questions on hormones. I had like 5 questions on plants. I had a couple questions on Animal behavior. Overall, just know the basics and do not worry about the details. Achiever def. goes into details and makes you think but for the real thing, you do not need to know any details.

Gen Chem: I thought this section was the easiest of the three but I scored the lowest out of the three and I don't know why. Just know your basics on how to calculate, molarity, molality, empirical formula, percent mass and your rate laws. This section was much much easier than Achiever and also much easier than Kaplan.

Ochem: Very easy section and really straightforward. Know all the basic reactions and know all your oxidizing and reducing agents clearly. Know ortho, para, meta directors really well. This section was a joke compared to achiever and Kaplan subject tests.

PAT: Def. easier than achiever but achiever is good practice because it makes you think smarter. The keyholes were easy but angles were really hard. I have never been good at top-front-end so I probably missed a lot of those. Holes, cubes, and pattern folding was fair as well. By the way, I was able to touch the monitor so it kind of helped with the angles and hole punching.

RC: What a huge disappointment but it's a done deal now. I am almost certain the font was not bigger than a 9 and that made it really hard for me to read and concentrate on a paragraph. Everytime I take my eyes of the paragraph and focus on the question, I'd lose the passage. I usually just read the question and then go find it in the passage and it worked but it was not straightforward on the real thing. I had a lot of trouble finding the key words I was looking for because of the damn font size. I truly think I would have done better on this section if the font size was bigger. Sorry for complaining.

QR: This section wasn't too bad. I had a lot of algebra and good amount of words problems. I had like 3 questions on trig and 3 on geometry. Know all the trig relationships well.

Overall, the test wasn't too bad although I wish I didn't spend too much time on details because basics are more than enough. I also spent a lot of time on endocrinology but only needed to know the basics. I wish I had spent more time practicing PAT and supplemented other stuff for the reading section. The sciences were much much easier than Kaplan, achiever, etc. If you have any questions, please let me know. Goodluck to the rest taking the test soon.😍

hey u have great scoress,,,i m sure u ll be fine,,,rc will not stop u from getting into dental school...
u did great!!👍

Some schools have cutoffs, just double check where you're applying and see if they do. They're usually pretty straightforward with your chances when you ask them.

Busdentttt, AMAZING scores!!!! 😍 I knew you would do great. I am very happy for you. Regarding RC, don't worry, that doesn't take away the fact that you did great overall and you have a good GPA. It all depends on the schools you applied.
Once again, congratulations and enjoy yourself now!!! 😉 You are done! 😀

looks like someone raped the sciences! congrats busdent, and guess what...

YOU'RE DONE!

You have a solid GPA, your TS is great and the AA is above average. Aside from the RC all the other sections look good. Like another poster mentioned, call up the schools and check with them but it shouldn't hold you back.

oh and a little cover story as to why the RC's low might help

good job! 👍 go celebrate!

i feel u w/ rc 😕 hopefully we'll be okay.

u killed the other sections. great job 👍

congratulations.... great scores 👍 ..good luck in your application and interviews :luck: :luck:

i think a lot of schools like to see a fairly decent mark on RC because i was told by admissions representatives that is a predictor of how you would do on your boards.

my biggest worry is that if I were to retake the DAT to improve my RC score, I may end up scoring lower on sciences and I don't want to take that risk...😕 😕

Talk to the schools you are applying to...I don't think you should retake it! 😕 Just my opinion of course, everything depends on what the school want

hey busdent... i think you did fine on the test and wouldn't worry too much.. also thanks for all the time u spent describing the DAT test and what worked and didn't work for you.. now all you have to do is concentrate on your interviews.. 😀

Sup busdent.

I do know dental schools such as Indiana Univ has a reading comp cut-off of 18. I don't know why, but that's their policy from what I've heard from my pre-dental club advisor.

Dental schools usually stress a lot more on your science score than say your reading comp and quan analysis score. That's just my opinion, but the safe way is to call the dental school's admissions office and ask the people there.

thanks for the opinions. because of my reading score, my app is on "hold" at case. I called today and they said that I should try to retake it to improve that section. They said they have found positive correlation between the RC score and the boards. I am supposed to get a call back from somebody else from case so we'll see what he says.
