So I took the DAT this morning and I am very happy.

PAT- 20
QR - 18
RC - 23
Bs - 19 😕
GC - 25😍
OC - 25
AA - 22

So here's what I thought of each section.

PAT- everything but angle ranking was easy. I had about 8 min. left at the end so I went back through the angles and they were still impossible.

QR- about the same as Topscore

RC- I thought it was easy and I wasn't rushed. I would read each passage quickly making mental notes of what they were about. Then I looked for the answer to each question. Some of them were tricky because the answers are not word for word. But for the most part RC was straightfoward.

Bio- lots of random questions about stuff Kaplan didn't cover. I didn't get any hormone or enzyme questions and I studied for those like crazy. Lots of evolution and genetics questions. This is the one section I wish I had done better on.

GC- Amazing!!!!! I was so stressed about this section and it was so easy. The calculations were simple and already set up.

OC- I've always felt this was my strongest section because I just finished taking Orgo II with a really hard professor who never gave multiple choice tests so this was a breeze compared to that.

So overall it's not that bad and completely passable. I started studying like 1-2 hours a day ~3 times a week two months ago and for the last 2 1/2 weeks it's been basically all day everyday. So if you have any questions ask away and I'll try to help 🙂

Good job! You're guaranteed a spot now unless you go psycho during every single interview😀 . I'm really good at genetics, so not too worried about that unless its something wayy out there, which i doubt.

As far as ecology, is it a lot of phylum questions or name the aninal that is radial type questions?

CONGRATULATIONS!! 🙂 Great scores! So, what kind of evolution/genetics? Lamark and repressible systems? Or like sex linked traits and punnett squares?

Just be able to do simple punnet squares and study Hardy-Weinburg. I didn't see hardly any human anatomy questions. The best advice I have is to supplement every Kaplan Bio topic with readings from a textbook or wherever.

For ecology definitely go over when features first appeared.. like complete digestive tracts, closed circulatory systems etc. My Bio II Lab book was really helpful for this stuff.

Hi Izzy,

I wanted to know if you could clarify what you mean by when the features first appeared. Could you give me a sample question because Im not reall sure what i should expect for the ecology section besides what kaplan has given me.

Thanks

i think she was talking about questions related to the "origin of life"...my DAT was loaded heavily with these type of questions.....which kaplan did not cover very well. i would supplement your studying with some reading from campbell's biology text.

jb!

How did you prep for GC and Orgo???

Congrats on the scores...

Kaplan was plenty for Gen Chem.
I hated Kaplan's Orgo section though b/c if you are weak in this area they do a crappy job explaining reactions. I was lucky and remembered a lot from my Organic II class and I mainly used my own study materials from that. I felt that Kaplan's reactions were kind of randomly grouped together so I made my own sheets seperated by reaction type like..
Oxidation
Reduction
Halogenation
Organometallic
Misc.
This was really helpful for me.
