My first day of college is tomorrow..........

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
First class is biology. I think I am gonna be sick :scared:

good luck with the class and college!

try to take things slow and relax a little along the way. i've tried gunning through the process the first two years, and the results were not good at all. the second two years i realized my previous mistake and was never able to truly rebound. foruntately i still ended up alright.

You'll do great! Enjoy yourself, make friends, learn a lot, study hard.

Don't worry, everyone is nervous! But in reality it's not much different from high school...

it's completely different. in high school you just have to show up, in college, you have learn on your own and apply what you learn

Shouldn't you be out making friends at your new college instead of posting on the internet

You'll do fine. Just keep up with things, apply yourself, and enjoy what the college experience has to offer. Undergrad was really fun. 🙂

Good luck in school! you will do just fine! work hard, study, and make the best of it! college can be some of the good and worst times of your life.

 I see what you did there...

To the OP. Eye on the ball. Whatever you do, keep your eye on the ball. Goodluck!

I cannot stress this enough.. I am starting at a new university and recently moved into the dormitories. Everything is ok and my roommate is kind and respectful. However, when I sensed that he was more far more outgoing (socially), I started trying to compete and get girls before he could and that stressed me out. However, he is an art major taking 9 credits and I'm pullin micro, honors, and mcat prep along with 18 credits. I realized this and relented.

The "ball" would be whatever academic goals the OP sets for himself. Not sure...if that was a serious question.😕

I wasn't confused. I've just never heard it used in that sense.

Have fun, keep up with the reading. Limit partying to 1-2 times a week. Enjoy.

Also start looking to get involved on campus in clubs.

For freshman and sophomore year maybe lol. I think senior year i stayed in maybe 1-2 days a week haha

Just remember to always stay on schedule with your studies. Never get behind or you will be swallowed. College really isn't too bad if you manage your time efficiently. Good luck 🙂

Don't buy the books, they're ridiculously expensive and you won't even read them since almost everything you will be tested on will probably be in lecture or the powerpoints. Just keep up and don't cram. Do the work in a timely fashion and you should be fine. Enjoy college and don't get worried before you even started. You may enjoy your class.

What about Chemistry or Math books?

You are one HOT korean chick

I am so glad another member agrees. I have a girl who lives in the dorm that looks very similar.

I go to a school that is 20% asian and I rarely see any girl that looks like that.

I think it's different in that you actually need to study in college.

+1. Truth. I didn't study much in high school. College is an entirely different story. Unless you're a certified genius, studying is your only option.

Keep in the back of your mind that what you're doing is for medicine 🙂 (if you choose to be a doctor which im assuming)

What about Chemistry or Math books?

I think it depends; at our school, using the textbooks were extremely helpful and at times necessary since a lot of the work/ tests were based off the books. If your teacher is more lecture dependent, that's one thing. One thing is that you should try to buy your books somewhere other than your school. I bought a neurobio book online that was over 100 dollars cheaper than at my school. Compare and contrast prices. Also, sign up with Amazon Prime for students. It's free for a little over a year, and you can get free 2 day shipping on a lot of books sold directly from amazon.

Bio is awesome, especially the human aspects of biology. I mean learning the plant stuff is OK. I just found human cells and biology more interesting.
Get into the reading, review notes, and take care in the labs, and you should be fine.

Have fun and good luck! Undergrad shouldn't be something you dread, mate. Enjoy it.

What about Chemistry or Math books?

Same goes for general chemistry in my opinion. I would get math books to do practice problems and concepts, same goes for physics. I bought all the bio books and chem books, rarely opened them. There were a few I never used, which was money down the drain since you can basically understand everything from the powerpoints and lecture slides. Then again, I was a chemistry major so it kinda came naturally to me. Your experience might be different. If you're weak, you could get the books and read up on the concepts you need help with on but it will probably be better to just go to office hours or review sessions. This gives you the added bonus of gaining familiarity with the professor (possible letter of recommendation without the preceding awkwardness).

Also, that's na eun from A Pink.

If you're going to experiment that's fine but don't ever lose your focus on what's ultimately best for you! Take that as you will.

Have fun and try to enjoy undergrad. It's awesome. It's also not a hard as you think it will be. I did engineering and went in expecting to struggle, but it's really not that bad. Go meet people and make new friends, as these are the people who are going to get you through the hard times. Looking back, college was awesome.

Just BE SURE to have as much fun as possible. College is easy. You just need some basic time management and you will fly through it with no problems and have an amazing time.

Do not hang out with the wrong people.

Become an SDN success story!

Or fail like me.

You really don't have to go to classes during the 1st week. All they do is read the syllabus.
