Hi all:
hope you all enjoying your holidays. I had a patient with missing tooth # 20, 18, and she had her # 17.
#17 cavited and need endo tx. extraction of 17 is not recommended due to the only distal tooth ( natural tooth that pt. retains).
pt. don't want Implant, due to osteoprosis, and neither want RPD. don't have money for endodontist either. She is a great pt of mine.
this is what I decided to do.
I finished RCT # 17? WOW tough
3 short canals. very difficult access.
used Prosystem GT, it took me 3 hrs to finish RCT.
I am kinda happy doing it and just wanted to let you guys know. I will post the x-ray in a few days. 🙂
by the way, I am not an Endodontist.

Congrats, are you already a practicing dentist? Either way it must feel good.

I felt so good, she gave me a hug, I saved her a tooth for bridge, save endo costs, and as soon as I got home, I was so excited wanted to share this with you guys.
yes I am a practicing dentist.

Congrats on a successful procedure. Wow, 3 hours is a long time to be digging so far in the back of someone's mouth. I was wondering--how did you keep your patient comfortable for such a long period of time? Did you use a bite block? How did you anesthetize her? Thanks.

yes, used a bit-block, it was very tough, MB took me a long time to instrument. ML and Distal was quick.

May I be so bold, as to ask, what your fee was for 3 hours of chair time on this unusual case?

Did RCT for Free, and we agreed it might not turn out to be a good RCT, but it turned out to be a perfect one. I just did it for my patient.
because she couldn't afford paying any endo money.

I get the impression that you are not practicing in the United States, or are of foreign origin. To be a practicing dentist, and make an agreement that involves the possibility of the endo case that may "not turn out to be a good one", but you'll do it for free seems very strange. Posting such information on a student sight like this seems strange as well. You do realize that even though your patient seems fine with you winging an endo case above your skill level, if the outcome had been bad he/she could still sue your ass off. As soon as you start offering services for free it does two things, tells the patient that maybe you are not qualified, and diminishes the value of the service you are providing.
