my gpa history

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
don't worry about first year classes
I was in the same situation
my first 2 year GPA was like 2.8
However, my last 3 years were 3.6
I had a final GPA of 3.3
As long as you take many upper level biology courses during your senior years
The schools usually can "somewhat" overlook your junior years
You should really do well on your DAT , get 21+
Try to do a one year master program if you can
Apply early, you should be fine
Good Luck

i failed calculus. twice. im still a dental student. you just gotta make it up with a high DAT and good extracurriculars.

Not sure if ur posts acknowledges this or not but the grades that were replaced at ur university will NOT be replaced on AADSAS...I found out the hard way

You should make drastic improvements on the PAT with some practice...its pretty amazing you got 18 without any. With concentrated studying, you should shoot for atleast 21's, which would really help your chances. I also suggest submitting your app earlier than July...I submitted mine later (in August) and i had interviews all the way into April. Its best to get as many interviews before the Dec. 1 date as possible. Good luck.

1. Address the reasons in your personal statement why your GPA was not so hot frehman year and why it dropped off in your Junior year. Addressing this is going to be really important for you. Specifically mention how you grew from the experience. If you don't, schools could see this as a fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me scenario.

2. I would not mention the reason you took the DAT twice was because you didn't practice math/eng/pat. I would think the admissions committees would be paying more attention to your QR section than most applicants due to your performance in math courses in undergrad.

3. I agree, an 18 on PAT is pretty good w/o practicing.

4. Bear down and crush the DAT, it will help deflect attention off your GPA.

Best of luck! This thing is an endurance race! 🙂

so it's been 3 months since I posted here. i have to say thanks to sdn a lot because the input from everyone really helped a lot. i have re-doubled my efforts for the DATs and I am happy that my hard work really paid off.

wow congrats thats quite an improvement.... now im sorry to say that this advice is not from personal experience but rather from spending a year or so perusing this site but nonetheless ive heard that an improvement in gpa bodes well with admissions committees when a student starts undergrad poorly (im sure especially with great dat scores that reflect your work ethic)

im sure that explanations in your personal essays will also help out..because remember the board is made of human beings with hearts haha... anyway best of luck!!!
