My hair is falling out and I'm only a freshman in college. Everytime I run my hands through the my hair a few strands come out. I don't if its cause the stress or what. I don't wanna go bald.

You should go see a doctor to find the root cause (no pun intended).

Stress can cause hair loss as can deficient diet.

A few strands is a normal thing. I don't tug my hair in the shower for this reason. I'd only start taking it seriously if large clumps started coming out whenever you ran your hand through.

Between my roomate and I, we could collect enough hair during the week to make a wig. I try to vaccum everyday because I hate seeing hair on the floor or the sofa. And yes, during a shower more than a few strands always come off.

You would figure that eventually we would start running out of hair (read: becoming bald), since this has been happening for years, but so far we have not.

Don't worry, it's normal. Like someone said, only worry if whole chunks of hair start coming off or if you have visible bald spots in your head. But if you are concerned go to the doctor anyway.

Aww man, that really sucks...and you were just coming into your prime getting laid years.

Are you a vegetarian? Because I became one about 8 months ago and my hair is thinning as well. I've recently began eating more protein and taking vitamins so it has slowed down. Loss of hair at your age is most likely a nutritional problem.

My hair started falling out at the exact same time: Freshman year. I don't think it's much to do with stress; it's just normal for a male's hair to start thinning around that time. It doesn't seem to have much of an effect at first, but after 3 years of it falling out, seemingly unnoticeably, I did look into the mirror one day and finally notice that it was much thinner (so gradual that you don't notice; kind of like watching people age).....(wait...that's actually what it is...)

If you go on propecia it's almost a sure bet that you'll keep what hair you have. It's expensive, though.

i've heard that losing 80 strands of hair a day is normal. we shed hair and dead skin everyday...

My diet is pretty erratic. Sometimes I'll go a day without eating anything, the next day I'll just eat like crazy. I don't know what's wrong with me. I've lost a good 10 lbs since school has started as well.

Sweetie I think you just called out the answer to your own problem. I know it's hard to maintain a stable diet with all the transitions of high school to college life, but you really need to make it a priority to get a somewhat balanced diet every single day if you don't want your hair falling out, drastic weight loss and/or gain, loss of energy, and worst of all...messing with your metabolism! You don't want your body to go into starvation mode every day you "forget" to eat so that the very next morsel of food it receives it will store as fat in an attempt to survive. My boyfriend's mother and best friend's mother are both registered dieticians, so I've heard them talk of your hair-loss symptoms many times before. Not to sound like a nutrionist or anything, but try your very hardest to get in a small healthy meal (think apple with peanut butter or cottage cheese and fruit) every few hours, and I promise your hair problems will probably start to ease up. You don't want your glorious mane to become lackluster, do you? 😉 I'm sure everything will turn out OK.

Like my physiology professor said, humans start aging/dying at 16 even though you're not even finished growing. Sad to say but it's kind of the truth.

Don't worry too much, everyone had more hair start to fall out around that time, and you'll probably notice that your hair is even quite a bit thinner in only a couple of years. But as long as you're not actually going bald you should just chill and live with it.

I just went to my 5 year high school reunion and this one kid was totally bald on top...I thought he was like 40 until I realized he was talking to everyone else about old memories...then I was like holy crap...he was in my class! (my school had like 900 people in our class so it's ok for me to not know people-just in case you think I'm some heartless a-hole who doesn't remember his friends).

But as long as your hair is reasonably decent I'd just live with it. My own hair has definitely thinned out a bit but it's not bad enough to take any meds or anything. But my old friend from high school had to start using Rogaine and propecia just to get his hair back, lol.

You might also start noticing more gray hairs. I had like 2 gray hairs in high school but now I have quite a few...of course this is also genetic and varies from person to person (I get gray hairs whenever I'm stressed-which is unfortunately all the time-I noticed that if I had a summer break and nothing to do the roots of the gray hairs would go black-then once school started up again they'd go gray again).

OK, sorry for depressing you about growing older. But don't worry too much-worst case you actually start going bald and you start taking propecia.

Haha I just realized I totally assumed you are a girl. My apologies if you're a dude. Same advice still applies, though. =)

Are you sure your hair is falling out? Sounds like trichtotillomania to me.😀
