Hello SDN,

I have a quick question regarding LoR - My doctor whom I shadowed (now my boss) agreed to write an LoR for me. We are completely unrelated, but we have the same last name in English (same pronunciation but different character in Chinese). Should I ask my letter writer to specify that we are not related? Or is there a way for me to clarify the fact in the applications/interviews?

Any input would be appreciated!

It wouldn't hurt. Though if it is Chen or another very common name it probably isn't necessary. The first line of an LoR is usually along the lines of: "I came to know waazaa when he asked to shadow me in my pediatric clinic..."
