Hello, I am a 26 year old nontraditional student interested in doing a DO program.
I have a bunch of Community College credits and a BS degree from Western Governors University in Business - IT Management which consisted of all Pass/Fail classes, all of which I passed.
My CC GPA is a reasonable 3.68, however I have not taken any good science prereqs or pre-calculus, I've only taken college algebra, integrated science, and physical anthropology. Chem and Bio allowed my enrollment with my previous college algebra, but Physics requires pre-calculus 2 as a prereq. I wasn't motivated in high school and wound up with a GED. The only science class in HS I took was geology.

I'm expecting my schedule to go like this:

Fall 2013 - Chemistry 1, Biology 1.
Spring 2014 - Chemistry 2, Biology 2.
Summer 1 - Pre-Calculus 1
Summer 2 - Pre-Calculus 2
Fall 2014 - Organic Chem 1, Physics 1.
Spring 2015 - Organic Chem 2, Physics 2.

I am not strong with sciences, which is why i spaced it out as such, but alternatively I could possibly go

Fall 2013 - Chemistry 1, Biology 1, Pre-Calculus 1
Spring 2014 - Chemistry 2, Biology 2, Pre-Calculus 2
Summer - Self study to prepare for O-Chem and Physics, or make up any possible low grades
Fall 2014 - Organic Chem 1, Physics 1
Spring 2015 - Organic Chem 2, Physics 2

What do you all think?
With this schedule, when would I be able to take the MCAT and start applying for schools?

2015 MCAT throws everything up into the air. At the minimum, you'll need biochemistry as well.

I'd suggest doing your 1st outline, but take an online Precalc (1 semester / 3 credits worth) class instead of two Precalc courses if possible? This would allow you to take Orgo 1 and 2 over the summer, then Physics 1 in the fall, along with Biochem, then Physics 2 in the Spring.

docelh, Biochemistry eh? I'd either need to move for a semester or take it online 🙁 My college doesn't offer it. Is that gonna be a required credit-class or just required knowledge? I would love it if I could learn biochem on Khan Academy or something.

edgerock24, I wish I could just do one, but it's the second pre-calc class that's required as a pre-req for physics 🙁 Only way around that would be to find a more comprehensive math class at another school online that would satisfy that requirement. I'd also need to do something online for biochemistry, if I can even do biochem online

This plan seems reasonable and if you excel, you'll be highly competitive not only for DO programs, but possibly some mD as well.

If you feel you're ready, and take plenty of practice tests, shoot for MCAT by summer of 2015.

If you haven't taken a look, it's all described here: https://www.aamc.org/students/download/266006/data/2015previewguide.pdf

As for required, I'd say you probably should take it, but mcat can be taken by anyone any time.

you have all been very helpful! Thank you all. I'm going to do my best to rock the prereqs and study hard for the 2015 MCAT in order to get into a good medical school!
