I only have one II and its coming up soon. My question is - do you mention during the interview that this is your top choice (and this is honestly my top choice)?? I don't want to come off as desperate but I also know this school isn't top 20 so it may want to know if an applicant is interested. Thanks in advance!

No... LOL
Do not mention it.

One of my interviewers asked me where else I was doing interviews, I just said "Of the places I am interviewing at, this school is most attractive to me because..."

They are NOT suppose to be asking you that anyways.

Don't force it. If the conversation flows to something like "Why this school" or something then bring it up, but I wouldn't go out of your way to get to it

I think it's like dating. Appear interested but not too interested. No one likes a clingy person.

- I think talking about specific aspects of the school that you like shows that you're interested (like free clinic, research opportunities, etc.)... In all my interviews they asked why this school.

Don't force it into the conversation, but it's good to show interest if it comes up in natural conversation.

Bad example:
I: Hi cyang, how was the drive?
C: The drive was great! By the way this is my top choice school!

Good example:
I: Hi cyang, how has your experience here been so far?
C: I'm really enjoying it! I loved/didn't know about x, I was really impressed by x, etc.

Don't just say "THIS IS MY TOP CHOICE" - it reeks of desperation. Give the impression that the school is your top choice without saying it outright. Same goes for the "why this school?" question if it is asked at an interview.

We know that most people are lying when they say this. It's like the guy who says to the hot chick "Yes, I'll respect you in the morning!!"

Remember, one of the points of the interview is to sell you on the school, as we assume most people are probably interviewing elsewhere.

no, don't show desperation

Thanks everyone for the consistent responses and the spot-on analogies!!

Don't use that phrase directly, but definitely convey it in the way you speak about the school. Interviewers are looking for true passion and sincerity.

Just want to let it be known that it's not the end of the world if you do (perhaps inadvertently) say it's your top choice. I used that exact phrase as my interviewer walked me to the door without even thinking about filtering myself. It was relatively natural -- he said, "I don't have a lot of influence in this whole process, but I'll do what I can to help you out," which I'm sure he says to everyone, and I responded, verbatim, "Well, this is my top choice, so..." He then exclaimed, "Oh! That's good to know," and seemed genuinely appreciative of this information; he actually went back to the table to write something down before walking me out the rest of the way. After a month of kicking myself in the rear for slipping -- thinking the exact same things that all of you are saying -- I was accepted.

Conclusion: you never know. Maybe if you can be truly genuine about it, it'll make a difference. Perhaps everyone thinks everyone will say it, which actually means that no one ends up saying it. You do you, cyang.
