I was at my pediatricians office today because I had to take my brother to get a PPD. Anyway he knows about my quest to become a physician and we had a little chat regarding medical schools because his son is a first year student at SUNY Downstate. He told me he had a 3.8 something GPA and a 36 MCAT and applied to 13 schools, interviewed at all of them and only accepted to 3.. the three NY state schools. He mentioned Cornell and NYU as a few of the other schools he applied to. He also said he had very good ECs, "you name it, he was in it" he said. With these stats and his rejections/did not hear back from with the schools I'm wondering how this can be possible? The only logical conclusion I can come up with is that he did not apply broadly enough and the other ten schools he applied to were top tier medical schools or something. What do you think?
