How is my school list so far? applying this cycle....
3. 79 cgpa, 3.7 sgpa , Mcat 37o
typical Ecs , research, publications , lots of leadership , some awards and work experience. TX resident... I picked some out of state schools after going through MSAR and am open to any suggestions.
my list:
6 TX schools
Baylor
JHU
WashU
UCSF
Duke
Uchicago
Vanderbilt
Columbia
Stanford

slightly off topic... I am currently volunteering in a elderly care center taking care of seniors with varying levels of alzheimers. Can I put this as non clinical as this facility is not hospital and has no doctor attending ?

thanks...

If your ECs are consistent with the mission of the school, you can pretty much apply wherever you wish and have a shot.

Doctors are not in attendance in ambulances either, yet EMTs are gaining good clinical experience, as are battlefield medics, rehab center aides, home hospice caretakers, etc. That said, if this is a senior daycare you're referring to, and none of the clients are bedbound, you'd probably be fine calling it nonmedical community service. Depending on what you do, you might be able to spin it either way, as you wish.

Thanks Catalystik.

should I expand my school list beyond those 15 ?

As for the volunteering, none of the seniors are bedridden in this assisted living home. I usually entertain (play bingo, checkers , read to them etc), and occasionally feed them . I was just making sure because i need some non medical volunteering hours. I will also be teaching english abroad this summer so I think I can spin this experience either way.

I would think that your instate schools would provide enough safety schools, so long as you take them seriously and can verbalize reasons you'd want to attend them. You don't want them to think they are just backups, but you might need "backups" if you aren't a great interviewer, have legal or institutional actions on your record, have lukewarm LORs, or just because getting into top schools is a crap shoot even for highly qualified applicants.

Thanks again. I don't have any of those issues but I 'll add few more safety schools just in case.
