Well I found it useful reading other peoples scores and seeing what they did to get those scores so I figured I would share. Test date was Aug 23, 2009

Composite Score: 91 👍
Anatomy: 87 (65) 😀
Micro/Path: 86 (65) 😀
Dental/Occl: 82 (73) 😳
Biochem/Physio: 74 (60) 🙄

Study habits:

-total time dedicated to studying 10 days... 10-12 hours/day
-sources... decks, internet, released tests, Crack the NDBE, first aid, textbooks
-method: I basically mainly went off of the decks. I know a lot of people on here don't endorse it, and I am wishy washy on the topic, but I had to pick something to go off of and I didnt like how the FirstAid book was arranged. So I pretty much went through all the decks once thoroughly and took notes on anything that I didnt know and looked up anything that was still confusing. I have to admit, for the DAT I felt that I knew the science material better, there were a lot of things on the decks that I just didnt remember... there are some very minute details that are great if you can remember but if you cant you will still be ok.

I took one of the the Crack the NBDE tests... I felt it was a little harder than the real thing and there are some misconceptions, but the thing I did like about it was it gave you an idea on what you scored with a curve and the way the screen looks on the Crack the NBDE is EXACTLY how it looks on the real thing.

I would definitely look over all the recent released tests (I am kinda mad, the 2009 released tests arrived right after I took the test) not only for repeats but also the repeated concepts. My test I felt was harder than the 2005 released test (acutal 2004 test), and maybe on par with the 2003 released test (actual 1998 test).

If anybody has any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks! I didnt go through the 70s/80s exams. Not only was I short on time, I felt that there may be many out dated concepts, out dated terminology, and topics that aren't covered any more. BUT, if you have the time and the wherewithal to spot things that may have changed Id say go for it. If not, Id just stick to the 2000s and later 90s.

Thanks wadent... like I said in the post, I felt my test was on the harder spectrum of the released tests from 98 and up. Similar to the 98 test in terms of difficulty (not in topics covered or layout). But there were repeats from all the tests I went over. Either way, its WELL worth your time and effort to go over the released tests.

Camaro.. great score! I hope you are happy with it! I was wondering if you could elaborate more on your thoughts about the exam. Which section seemed the hardest to you and why? If you had to study again for it what would you do different or focus on more? Also, I feel very weak in Micro/Path and Anat and am worried about these sections. Do you feel decks covered these areas well; or what would be the best way to study for these you think looking back? Congrats again and thanks for the help!

Thanks! I am pretty happy with it... my main goal was to break the 90s and I did so no complaints here.

To me the hardest questions seemed are the ones that seemed to incorporate physio microbio and biochem all into one question. There weren't a ton of those but when they did come along they made you think. You had to know facts from 3 separate disciplines to answer the question correctly. The only real way to get through those is by knowing your stuff. A lot of what helped me was just doing well in my classes and trying to learn as much from that as I could and used study aids to cover in the gaps and reinforce things I was confused on. Its hard for me to give you any one golden study aid, cuz it really doesnt exist. As long as you pick one as your main source and use others to supplement you will be ok.

Sorry for the lack of concrete answers, but this test is simply how much effort you put into it.

HI,

Congratulations on your great score.......And thanks a lot for your information because it helps a lot for us future test takers......Can you please let us know which topics are very essential to study.......from the view point of your test.....

Thanks

mmm, I couldnt pick out a particular topic that was heavily stressed. Id say for Anatomy most of it was head and neck obviously, and mostly about the neural/blood supply to the teeth and MOM. Biochem/physio was strong on blood glucose regulation/diabetes type stuff. Path nothin in particular, but was mixed in with a lot of micro. Micro had a substantial amount on fungi, esp candida, but others also. Dental, decent amount of anatomy, lots of occlusion, some on eruption/calcification sequences. Not all the tests are the same so what was stressed on my test might not be covered much on yours.

The released exams I think are gotten through ASDA. I am not really sure to tell you the truth. And yes by 2004 I meant the pilot exams

Well that depends on your goals and your GPA and rank and extracurriculars. I may be mistaken but I believe they look more at the composite score. I wouldnt retake it for low score on one part of the test. Not to mention that score is low for a reason... that section is harder. You scored 13% higher than the national average which is pretty good. I really dont know a whole lot about the process of applying to specialties so others may be able to shed more light for you.

Depends on your study habits, how much you picked up in your classes, how good of a memory you have, etc. I mean it took me 10 days of non-stop studying to do it... but others it might take 20 days while others it may take 5. Or maybe you're someone who likes studying a little bit at a time so you may do 5 hours a day for a month. Do whatever you've been doing to get you thus far and you will do well.

Thanks very much for your reply...............

Your welcome👍

Still driving a camaro?

Still driving a camaro?

Still have it yes and drive it occasionally in the summer, but it mainly sits in the garage at home. Needs some parts which requires money, and someone to install those parts (me) which requires time.... and I possess neither of those. 🙁

That's gotta be a nice lil' sleeper. I'm sure you'll have more time to work on it after dental school.

Yea it moves out pretty quick... but it will be nice to finally do what I want with it after Dschool
