  1. Dental Student
Hey ,
I am currently deciding between going into dentristy or optometry. I probably will plan on applying for both and see what my choices when the time comes. As far as applying to dental schools I had a few questions. I have basically finished all my pre reqs except for 4 credits of Organic Chem 2. I was just wondering do most dental schools require that you have all the pre reqs completed before even sending in the application. The reason I ask is that I might not have a organic lab completed by the time i submit my application. I plan on taking O chem 2 as well as the DAT right around when i submit my applications, however I am planning to take the lab for it later on. I know for most optometry schools as long as you have the majority of the pre-reqs completed at the time of the submitted application that is ok. Also I have ~3.1 GPA with a 3.3 Sci GPA. I plan on applying to all the schools here in texas but just wanted suggestions as to which I might have the best shot to get into out of Texas. Thanks.

No, you can take the prereqs after you send your application as long as you finish them before marticulation.

Definitely not competitive scores, but it doesn't mean he can't get in somewhere. He may not get his pick of schools but he still has a good chance of being accepted --- especially if he can pick up those grades and do well on the DAT.

You will want to include the private schools on your list, prelude. Schools like BU, NYU, UOP, NOVA and others make you pay through the nose but they are a little more forgiving in terms of GPA.

You can apply and interview before completing all the prereqs at UT Houston (along with the other TX schools I think). BTW, Houston also req 1 sem of biochem.

Sorry, we Nova Southeastern University CDM no longer is a "forgiving" GPA school! Our last entering class' GPA was in the 3.5s and this year accepted students have gone up even higher. Do some search, you'll see applicants with 3.4s getting denied this year!

Of course, there are matriculated students with lower GPAs, but simply 3.1s and 3.3s are not sure bets anymore. Don't know about other schools, but NSU-CDM now has competitive admission!

Nonetheless, good luck to the OP and keep us updated!
