I am working on a masters right now out of state. I originally entered to improve my chances for med school and to apply to MD/PhD programs. I recently changed my mind and will only apply to PhD programs.

My question is, will it hurt my application if I quit my masters program to work a year (to get out of paying out of state tuition) and then apply to PhD programs?

Not if your work is "research assistant". But really, it won't matter much unless you have a really crappy resume.
