Hey- just found SDN and wanted to see if anyone else is in the same boat as me.

I'm 25 years old and graduated from Marquette with a Finance major, worked for two years, and am now finishing up my dental pre-reqs at UW-Milwaukee. I have a 3.4 overall, a 3.8 in sciences, and got a 21 AA 19 TS 22 PA on the DAT.

Applied late (early November) at Case, Creighton, Marquette, Iowa, Minnesota, Arizona. Rejected by Iowa and Minnesota (even though my dad was roommates with their Dean of Admissions in dental school, he didnt want to make "the call" on my behalf... I understand) Got waitlisted at Creighton, Marquette, and Arizona. Interviewed at Case for alternate list, just found out I'm in the "middle third" on their wait list, so the odds are not good.

Then got noped at Creighton and Arizona... Called to ask what I could do to improve my odds for next year, and the man I spoke with at Creighton told me they booted me off the wait list because they "figured" I would be accepted at Marquette already. I told him I'm not, and he said he would put me back on the alternate list! Suffice it to say, glad I called.

Anyone else on the same wait lists? I'm curious whether or not the fact that I went to Marquette undergrad affects the way other schools look at my app. Is it possible that, like Creighton, they assume that I'm putting Marquette #1 and then dismiss me?

How did youfind out from Case that you made the Alternate list? E-mail or regular mail?

Did you keep contacting with creighton after they put you into the waiting list? At least that could elimate this kind of misunderstanding.
Your DAT and GPA are pretty high, maybe late app kills you. However, keep contacting to each school, send them anything you think could be helpful. Just give them an impression that you are still interested in them. Otherwise,
due to your high stat, people will assume you've already got in somewhere.
They want to fill in their seats ASAP now, I think. They won't take any risk (maybe) or waste time to contact anybody who has already got in some where else.
Show them your interest. Send them your transcript, old or new. Ask for more recommendation letters from all your professors, the more the better. Send to the school one or two letters per week. Call them one a week.
I believe they like it.
Good luck.

I called Case and asked them where I was on the list. They told me to call back every 7-10 days for updates as the list does change.

Marquette, Case, Arizona and Creighton have the most weired selectionprocess among dental schools. I am sorry that you applied to those schools only. Your DAT score and GPA are very good. I would reapply EARLY like in June with the same score but more schools especially in the east coast. Waiting list is bul****, the make you wait till July and your chance of getting in close to zero. I was in waiting list last year both at Marquette and SIU. Never made it. Don't get disappointed apply early and you will definitely get in.
Good Luck

Thanks for the compliments about my DAT and GPA... I was so excited when I got my scores back, I thought I would be able to get in.
Till I saw this forum, it seems like everyone and their mother got over a twenty on the DAT. The scores on predent.com are all like 3-4 points higher than the averages I have seen posted elsewhere.
Do only the overacheivers come post on these message boards?

SDN represents a small fraction of applicant. I would reapply and this time just a lot earlier.
