Plan to achieve >240 on Step 1:

1) Memorize First Aid
A) Read and annotate (all recommended Taus books) into First Aid (x1)
B) Read First Aid (with annotations) front to back (x2) (first aid is read a total of 3 times)
C) Do Flash Facts to reinforce reading
D) Do First Aid Q&A book to reinforce reading

2) Read Goljan Rapid Review Pathology (x3)
A) Do Robbins Review of Pathology question book to reinforce reading

3) Listen to Goljan audio lectures

4) Complete USMLE World in the 4 weeks leading up to the test
A) Weeks 1-2: 50 Q/day (700 Q)
B) Weeks 3-4: 100 Q/day (1400 Q)

5) Take NBME exams

So, is it feasible to plan to go through RR Path 3x? Is there anything else you would add to this plan to get >240?

How much time do you have total, and have you started any of this yet? That'll help others gauge where you should go from here, I'd imagine.

I agree with Guy, do assert the timeframe for your schedule.

I would also recommend you do atleast 3 NBME's ,the latest ones, space em such a way that you gauge how ur makin progress and at the same time have adequate time to remedy yr weaknesses.

In other words, don't do the tests later during your schedule, space em proportionally apart.

If you can manage to get all this done, then great!

Good luck

I personally favor a minimalistic approach because I think it's better to know a few resources really really well than half-ass know a gigantic number of resources. However, everyone is different and you have time.. but you will still find yourself in the same position as everyone else does - 1 month or a few weeks before the exam and you start thinking to yourself how much time you wasted doing this and that when you could have used it in a better way.

Remember to mold your schedule to what works best for you. Your schedule is really ambitious, however, I don't think it's a good use of your time to real ALL of the recommended books from Taus AND annotate all of them into FA. In fact, keep annotating to a minimum. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I had my FA spiral bound instead of 3-hole punched so that I wouldn't add any additional pages of notes to it. If you think about it, no matter what you write down in FA or how many pages of notes you have at the end of the process - the only thing you can take into the exam is your mind. Reading, consolidating information from FA, and doing questions may be a better use of your time than transcribing a whole bunch of books into FA to the point of rendering it useless for its intended purpose.

Taus is great but he has way too many books as others have mentioned. Outside of FA, RR, BRS Physio I would only get books for subjects that you are weak in. I have about 6 dedicated weeks to study and I'm only supplementing those books with Kaplan Biochem (FA is weak in this) and HY Neuro (I suck at neuro).

Repetition of key resources is more important than reading everything you can get your hands on. and of course, do lots of questions

Hey! Add in Webpath images- a great learning tool for neuro/path pics.

So would you suggest that I still read some of the resources (HY neuro, HY behavioral, and MMMRS) instead of annotating them into FA? If I did this early enough, I would still have plenty of time to master the primary resources.

For those of you who recommend annotating, do you generally just annotate from UWorld or do you actually go through and add in things from review books that FA doesn't mention?

I kind of like the idea of just simply mastering FA, RR path, and BRS physio as primary sources (multiple run-throughs) and then just reading the other secondary resources like HY neuro, without annotating anything.

Would mastery over FA, RR path (+Goljan audio), and BRS physio as well as doing a full UWorld run-through be enough to achieve >240?
