I started out with a high GPA, 3.81 science, and was ready to destroy the MCAT. However, I bombed and got a 497. I was unsure if I even had a chance to get in to my state schools.

So far I've interviewed at all 3, and have been accepted at all 3.

Just know that applying to medical school isn't just about who you are on paper, but also your reasoning for wanting to be a physician and what your plan is after you've successfully become a physician.

My selling point was always to return to my hometown. I was born, raised, and went to undergrad in a very rural and medically under served area and am an advocate for fixing the problems in my own backyard before travelling and telling people how to fix theirs.

Remain adamant with your reason to become a physician and the schools will invest their time into you and help you help the society. This road takes a helluva lot of luck and persistence.

MD, DO, or both?

Applying with a 497 instead of retaking might not be the correct decision for some people, but congratulations I'm glad it went so well for you!

I had taken the MCAT extremely late and got my score after the cycle had already began. I decided going for it would be best as opposed to a gap year.

Interestingly, my low MCAT advisee this term was also had a strong rural background as well as a very compelling life story. She has two II so far this cycle

The rural background really did well for me, in Kentucky most schools are focused on in-state applicants because we are largely rural.

MD, DO, or both?

I applied to both, 2 MD and 1 DO in state (along with about 30 others across the nation) and will be attending MD!
