so heres my story.

Bio major with Psych minor
going to graduate soon

Cumulative GPA ~3.8
BCPM GPA ~3.8

No MCAT yet, but let's pretend it's 32

EC (in random order):
-exchange student one summer with full scholarship
-teacher's aide for blind children learning center one summer
-hospital volunteering for ~200 hours (1 year)
-behavioral technician for children with autism for 1 year
-general volunteering ~500 hours
-one board position in community service club
-shadowed two doctors

I decided on med school late in the game.
I can see my biggest detriment would be
lack of research and leadership positions.
Should I have taken a research position instead
of taking that behavioral technician job?

I just wanted to know where I stand in what
schools I could apply for, and particularly
the chances I have to get in a California school.

Just wondering. okay Thanks!

Are you a Cali resident? Either way Cali schools are very competitive. Also don't count on getting a 32 on the MCAT. Otherwise your ECs look good and you have a strong GPA.

I think you have a good chance with a decent MCAT. Don't neglect to apply to some OOS friendly mid-tier schools, but I don't think California schools are out of reach. 🙂 Good luck!

Thanks for the input.
I'll definitely apply for OOS schools.
What does anybody else think?
How are my EC's, does it hurt that i dont have research?
Is there anything else I could improve on?

Not all schools emphasize research - the top 20, yes, but otherwise, there are many medical schools which don't care - so maybe you will have a better chance at some of the UC's than others. You may be able to take on a leadership role/position in one of your many excellent EC's in order to improve your application. It's more about what you DO than how you describe it.
