Alright SDNers...now it's my turn to present my case: I'm in my first year of Master's work, I just started volunteering at the hospital here, I had a 3.4 cumulative undergrad GPA(science more like 3.2), and I'm from CT. I'm goin to apply to med school starting in June. I plan to take the MCAT for the first time in April. I really like UConn, but since I'm at grad school in NY, would I really be better off establishing residency here in NY? I know there are far more schools that would give me preference, but there would also be many many more NYers to compete with...from what I've seen of UConn's stats, CT people do pretty well in admissions there. I'm going to apply MD and DO no matter what, maybe even more heavily on the DO side, because I really like the philosophy, and I'm contemplating primary care anyway. I'm having a hard time with this decision and would greatly appreciate any words of wisdom...

I am not sure, but are you able to establish residency if you have already started in a program such as the master's?

Are you only applying to schools in New York? I would check out the acceptance rates for out of staters verses in staters and see which one gives you the best odds. Don't just look at the rates of Conn students, but look at all students and see what is the best.
