I was talking to my pre pharm advisor and she told me she attended some admission meetings for other schools. She told me some schools are now checking myspace and facebook profiles. So just to be safe maybe before you apply you clean up your page a little.

I never bother with junk like that. I honestly don't feel the need to share my personal information with the world. By the way, a recent NPR story said that advertisers were now harvesting Myspace info. So it's no longer just weirdos and adcoms looking at your page!

DOn't forget too that anything you have written on friend's walls they can see also if your friend's profile isn't set to private. Simple solution: delete the post

I heard about that! There was something about that on the news last year. A woman in an elementary education program at some school was discharged from the program because her myspace page reflected poorly on her character. (Sorry it's so vague, but I can't remember the details!) All I remember is that her myspace name was "Drunken pirate" and her profile picture showed her in some kind of pirate halloween costume drinking at a party. Isn't that crazy!

Not that I have anything to hide on my myspace and facebook, but after I saw that-- I made both pages private! 😱 I wouldn't want an admissions committee reading some joke a friend posted and taking it the wrong way.

This is what facebook's private profiles are for. I have no need for the entire world to see my profile. And just today I got a message telling me that profiles would soon be indexable on search engines (if you choose to allow it for your personal profile; why anyone would agree to that is beyond me).

i just started a pharmacy program. One thing that they stated was just this. It falls within the code of conduct and if you do anything to disgrace the school you can be dealt with even if it means expulsion.

yeah i cleaned up my facebook and blog long ago...all the good stuff is password protected. my myspace had nothing up in the first place...it was just there in case old non-college friends wanted to find me.

I treat my facebook and myspace as I would an interview. If they saw mine, it might actually boost my status.

(except for a Paris Hilton joke here and there... But hey, if they don't have a sense of humor, then who needs them!)

how do you delete a post or thread

you guys are getting me all paranoid:scared:. I haven't said bad about any program or anything like that (except ranting alittle bit about the run around some of the admissions departments gave me). I just would hate to get rejected because of something on myspace or facebook or SDN.

For my blog, I use only first name on there.

For SDN, I purposefully use incorrect information identifying myself. Nothing huge, I've fudged my age, home campus, and city location on here from the very beginning. I think my current persona here has me at age 23 or 24 living in irvine, ca (orange county) and graduated uci in 2005.

Facebook is a closed system, so the only way an adcom can see my profile is if they ask one of my 678 listed friends to log-in. I have friends that sit on adcom interview panels and they all kinda like me, so that's set 😀 Besides, half of them I've been drunk around. But I still sterilize it now and again (ex. if there's a photo of me dry heaving into the toilet, i'll delink it).

yes....you can say i'm a little paranoid, but as an undergrad doing interviews for things like clubs/student government, I've actually pulled up a person's facebook profile ahead of time/did a google search. I HAVE based my decisions partly on what was in them. So based on what I have done personally, I act as though the same things were being done to me.

Many job interviewers have been doing this for a couple years now. Surprised it's taken adcoms so long to catch on.

As for Facebook, there's an alert on top of your news feed page that tells you about the new Google/Yahoo etc indexing. All you have to do is uncheck a box and you won't show up on Google.

This is why I don't use none of these social networking sites.

LOL, viewing your posts is hilarious. You've deleted almost all of them. Some threads didn't seem bad at all, I think that you are worrying too much.

If I don't get in, I want it to be because I wasn't the highest qualified applicant for the spot, not because I like to rant and rave on SDN every now and again

+pity++pissed+

You have GOT to be the MOST paranoid person ever.

:meanie:you've got to be one of the nicest ever

If you don't use your full, real name on here, what the hell are you worried about? 😕

Even if any admissions committee or employer possessed the inclination, time, and utter lameness to figure out who you were and then make some sort of judgement on you based on your posts, in my opinion that would border on stalking/harassment.

i just realized if you don't like someone, you can easily make a fake profile on SDN...myspace..etc.... and put a lot of bad things up there. It would get shut down/closed eventually.

I think this is why adcoms WON'T readily take certain sites into consideration, because you can't 100% verify that this is X or Y person. The only one you can really verify is Facebook.

I love social networking sites 👍

==> Example, the St. John Fisher issue with the forged letter that unfolded on SDN. Adcom could have EASILY done a little research to figure out who to investigate, but it did not do so until it spoke to the person who made the accusation for a name.

ive actually heard of certain facebook accounts that can look at anyones profile, even if it is private.

does anyone know for sure if this is true? this scares me

what happened to the person who forged the letter? wasn't there a thread about that a little while back? i think i remember reading something about it..

admin ones (ie facebook employees). aside from that, no. the person who told you this also probably believed that Bill Gates was going to give them $200 for forwarding an email or that myspace was shutting down. hahaha

the person who allegedly forged the letter presumably had their acceptance revoked. Due to privacy issues, the SDN adcom member couldn't comment further. From what I gathered from his intentionally vague post, others were implicated as well.

wow, this is news to me
although i don't have a myspace
i do have a facebook, i dont think i have anything inapproiate there
but i have talked and mess around with facebook grafitte w/ a friend that we drew some chemical formula and chains and such...
but it was a pretty bad drawing, i wonder if that will reflect on it
anyways, do they really do that? search up the name on myspace?

Try to stay on topic, folks. No need to freak out. Maybe an infinitesmally small amout of applicants will not be accepted because of an internet profile.

See, ADCOM's don't like snide little remarks.

Just chill. ADCOM's do not have the time or resources to look at those profiles. I just think it was funny that you overreacted the way you did.

Have a great day. 😀

It is a FACT that SDN is read by members of administrative staff. Whether or not that would play a part on your admission, I cannot say. This is a public medium, as is Facebook and Myspace. Post whatever you wish here or there - just keep in mind that if it is something you do not want some people to know - you should probably use some discretion.

I realize that SOME ADCOM's read this, but not all, and I don't think that one should resort to the extreme of erasing all posts because they think someone might read them. I don't think that someone from a school is going to hunt someone down because they posted their opinion that the school is slow, unorganized, or whatever. It's not like our address, phone and SSN is attached to our account. HOWEVER, that whole deal with forging a LOR is a different story. I think that this post was taken by some to an extreme, and was simply saying so.

Exactly. I think they would come to the forums mostly to get a better idea of the [pre-pharm] student population. Not to waste resources investigating John or Jane Doe SDNer who comes asking for advice in the applications process.

I was investigated - located - and contacted. It wasn't for anything terrible - but they really wanted to know my thoughts.

Yes - they can, and will contact you based on what you say. They do check to see what people are saying about x and x school - and if something merits investigation and contact - you can bet they will. I know of more that (3) occasions where this has happened.

If you have not heard of it - that is one thing - to say it does not happen, well - that is being dishonest. I am not saying you should find every post you have ever made and delete/edit it for content. I am simply saying use discretion.

Like I mentioned above...just fudge your "personal" facts on here until you are fully accepted, and add into the Roll Call thread. Make up an online persona and stick to it.

In fact, I shall name my online persona....my name is Rico....Suaaaaaaave. 😀

I will agree that I did over react. This is my first time applying, and Its a scary thing, if that makes any sense.

yeah, i'd like to add a post here...if any USN (NEVADA) students comes to my pharmacy and don't how it work, etc...i'd make them cry, stupid with high gpa; no kidding, just check the profile....you'll find one, and non-citizen too

If someone who speaks as poorly as you owns a pharmacy, I should have no problem with my future plans. Thanks for making me more confident.

You know...this is actually not a bad idea.

There's really nothing on my myspace/facebook that I would want to hide from the admissions commitee. Maybe pictures w/ alcohol in them, but whatever, it's legal lol. We should exchange myspace/facebook names so we can see who we're talking to on here! annonymous internet people....haha

i had registerd for cal 1 , but my instructor wasnt good so i had to drop it, but im a lil worried because im planning to take the pcat in Octber, so i jus wanted to know wat you guys had to say about this?

I'd say 1) Don't post something in a thread that has nothing to do with the thread. 2) PCAT questions (including preparation, registration, and analysis) should go in the PCAT forum.

yeah you right, i thought i posted a new topic, but i was in hurry so i wasnt bothered to delete it

For facebook, why not delete the wall? That's what I did. I just message people. It's more safer and adcoms cannot see your messages.
