I broke my wrist on my last day of dental school. I screwed up and finished early and it was a fine day for a bike ride. Graduated with a cast. I'm not a big fan of maxing out on a bench press or lots of push ups. But, it has worked fine for over 20 years. Yes there are aches and pains, like everyone gets. It is not the greatest profession for ergonomics. Just the way it is. Your concern for health is real for everyone. I had the same concerns at 25.
IF you can't be a yoga instructor I definitely think you should try yoga. Wish I got into it years ago, but it is awesome.
Btw, everyone's hand cramps up. Writing a lot hurts mine as well. Texting is probably terrible for my hand as well.
I was in an oral surgery case once and an attending couldn't hold back a flap due to an arm cramp. It was pretty funny.
So let me get straight... your hand cramped once in 20ish years from writing and now you freaking out
mainly concerned that i'll be in loads of debt and with weak hands/sucky at dentistry and not be able to pay it all off....
Hello everyone, I'm male 25 currently studying for DAT (will take in a week) and was writing a lot of bio notes a few days ago by hand and my hand suddenly cramped up and my forearm and wrist have been hurting and giving me pain when I am trying to write. This has me worried about my future as a dental professional since I don't have the strongest of hands and have already invested so much of my time into dental field (have my bachelors, work in a dental office, been published for oral research) that I overlooked the manual dexterity aspect by assuming I could strengthen my hands once in school. Now my hands and forearms are aching and i dont know if this is a sign to maybe pursue another health profession that wont be as detrimental to my body because I really dont think i would be happy with constantly aching wrists..... The reason i primarily want to go into dentistry is to help underserved communities who do not have the opportunity to get dental care because of financial costs but i didnt consider the factor of injuring myself severely in the problem ... I really want to be a dentist and love the opportunities it could provide me but I am afraid of the what if.....I don't know if its the DAT stress getting to me but any advice/outlook would be greatly appreciated.
Someone in my class literally comes in with a wrist brace every once in a while cause they actually have some nerve issues that affect their shoulder, wrist, and some fingers. Granted it’s not in their dominant hand and it’s still functioning so they can still do work.
Just relax, stretch, don’t use it as much, and ice it!
Hey everyone so I finished my DAT and went to the doctor because I was still having pain and they told me I have golfers elbow which is tendonitis in my elbow from over-use and prescribed me rest and stretches. Has anyone dealt with this/has any tips?

Prolonged rest. Years ago I had severe tennis elbow from weightlifting heavy 3 to 4 times per week. It became so bad that I took a year off from lifting. It is now healed and I have been lifting again regularly for years. But it takes a looooog time to heal.
