Does anyone know much about priceline's "name your own price" My schedule is flexible...but can you really get a ticket for 50 bucks? That seems too good to be true.

Sure, 50 bucks happens. But dont be mad if its a 14 hour flight across the country, starting at 3 AM. An example of mine, San Diego to Atlanta, purchased on priceline:

3:30 am: Leave for airport (30 min drive)
5 am: San Diego to Los Angeles
9:30 am: Los Angeles to Chicago
5 pm: Chicago to Atlanta
10 pm: Arrive Atlanta
12 am: Home in Atlanta

Conclusion: One long mother of a day.

And there are much, much worse out there... But if have a flexible schedule, you cant beat the price!!!

Wow...how low can you go? I just kept lowering my price...unreal.

Start ridiculously low, and then work your way up. I think thats your best bet for a cheap flight. 👍

It seems to work great for Hotels, because sometimes you really don't mind exact location as long as it's the general area. (You can't specify a hotel, but you can specify the quality and approximate location.)

For example, I got a 4-star room at the Renaissance in Houston for $64.84... normally the room goes for $159+tax/etc. Unfortunately, it's 3 miles away from the Texas Medical Center, but hell, with the money I saved, I'll gladly take either the free shuttle or just get a cab.

I'll probably do a mix of staying with students and hotels. But a room like this for sixty bucks? I'll take it.

Also, it's nice to be able to afford these luxuries in wide-open places like Texas, because similar accomadations in places like New York City would be extremely expensive.

It didn't work too well for my plane ticket to nawlins...

anyone know if you can accrue frequent flyer miles on priceline flights? (assuming that you have a plan with them?)

unfortunately not. it's on their website somewhere i think.

**** this, I am driving down in my diesel bug that gets 65 miles/gallon.... 😀

Way easy. It's a straight shot down I-55...you could make it in a day.

Priceline is awesome. Just not so great for car rentals because if your bid doesn't go through, you have to wait a week before you can bid again.

try Hotwire.com too. It has similar fares. You just can't specify exactly what time of day you want to depart.

I got the same hotel Indy did for $43 ($56.54 after taxes). I'm staying there 9/9 for a 9/10 interview.

Priceline works extremely well for hotels. Remember guys, if your bid gets rejected, you can do the free rebid by adding a zone that you know doesn't have the level hotel you want. You will also have to increase your bid slightly.

Check out these sites for loads of advice: www.betterbidding.com and www.biddingfortravel.com.

If a hotel accepts your bid, are you obligated to purchase a room from that hotel. From what I have read, that seems to be the case. Is that the same for flights too?
