Is it okay to use a patient's first name who I volunteered with and a doctor who I shadowed with in my personal statement?

I am worried about readers thinking I am irresponsible regarding HIPPA and name dropping when truly it doesn't flow as well without the names. Also the physician I shadowed is in my AMCAS activities.

I have considered using a fake name for the patient but how do I establish that it is a fake name. Do I put (Fake Name) after the name?

Thanks!

Put the fake name in quotations ex) "John"

I didn't include names in my essay. I just referred to the person as 'that man/woman/patient' throughout the essay.

I believe the consensus is that you should either refer to each patient simply as "the patient" or use quotes around the names to indicate that they're pseudonyms (eg - "Jon" was a nice patient).

Hope that helps.
