For DAT, are we expected to know the names of different reactions? For example, the test would show u a reaction and we have to name what the reaction is? I'm not worried about the easy ones such as aldol, diels-alder, and claisen, but i was wondering if we have to know the more complicated ones such as Wolff-kishner reduction, hoffman rearrangment, williamson reaction, etc.

I got atleast three reactions where they didnot give me the structure of products rather the names of different products were given...also be careful where there is C+ rearrangment as in my case both were given as answer choice ...i did not get any asking me about names but the person took DAT with me had question asking what reagent is best for Wolff-kishner reduction?

The way I handled the three questions: Rather than finding answer from answer choices I drew my products and named them and then comapred it to see if any matched with the answer choices.

Also I got a question where Williamson ether sysnthesis was given and was asked if it will go SN1 or SN2 or E2?

This is bad news for me. haha I am great at OC if I SEE everything--reagents, the cpd, etc. Otherwise, names don't mean much to me. Wish my prof had emphasized this more now. 🙁

don't be discouraged ...i wasn't prepared for it too..but I knew my reactions so just quickly drew the structure to see if matches with any choices ...and the moment i found my answer i did not check any other choices as I was 100% sure about my reactions.
