NAPLEX 2009 (Has anyone taken it yet?)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys,
I am taking the naplex on 7/31
i am so anxious and scared... I studied kaplan book and reviewed some from apha... i have a week left and am gonna review kaplan, brush up top 200 again and do more calculations... any last minute tips?
thanks

You might want to know the brand/generics for transplant drugs even if they're not top 200...I had quite a few questions on them. (not that you will...) It sounds like you're pretty well prepared. Don't be anxious!

i go blank
oh i hope i pass..
thanks for the input

Still no results from my Naplex (its been exactly 7 days!). I keep thinking I failed guys. The thought of having to retake this exam again makes my stomach turn. 🙁 I will keep everyone posted.

Got my NAPLEX results back and I PASSED with a 125 :soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:. Took my MPJE yesterday, so hopefully by Tuesday or Wedneday I'll officially be licensed pharmacist in the state of FL.

Famu, when did you take you exam? what day exactly if you don't mind.

i had it worse than most: had to take a leave of absence during 5th year = almost a year out of school and 6th year did nothing to further my knowledge (but was too busy to study for naplex) then moved to another state after graduation = much stress and no time to study for naplex...so i essentially settled into my new residence with just weeks to prepare for the test (and already scheduled at the pharmacy as a pharmacist) - i truly felt there was no way to pass at this point and the stress was overwhelming...here's what i did: kaplan [broke down the entire book by disease state and consolidated all important info: brief disease info, drug class, indications, MOA, SE, DI, contras, other info - just like they do, but i consolidated it all onto my notebook and color-coded everything + as much of the CD as i could] lange Q and A [excellent source of naplex-style questions (and explanations) and the math will prepare you for anything on the exam + as much of the CD as i could do] pronto pass posters [top 200 and liver enzyme interactions] ASHP [only the CD for questions/explanations - i didn't even look at the book] pre-naplex [took it twice: 60 and 59, i know, its terrible] - i passed the naplex with plenty of room to spare....my advice is to concentrate on the kaplan book (which covers the top 200 throughout) and math (very basic kinetics/calcs from kaplan and lange) - know the top 200 brand/generic/indication ....this worked for me, but every exam is different - but remember, NABP does not try to trick you - just know info regarding giving drugs to patients - which you must know to practice pharmacy anyway (indication, SE, contras, DI) - i also used the entire time, because i paid for it and had nothing else to do that day...relax, you'll do fine......

Update: I don't know how this happened, but I passed the NAPLEX with PLENTY of room to spare!!!! There was so much on that exam that I did not know. I am guessing that the calculations really helped my score. KNOW YOUR CALCULATIONS!!!!! For those of you that left the test feeling like you failed - there's hope! You most likely did better than you think you did. Congratulations to those of you that passed!

Thanks for the great advice. I studied the KAPLAN and parts oh APHA and i am going to take the pre-naplex tonight. my actual naplex is on 7-31... and hopefully i pass like you.

Like a lot of people on here I freaked when I took the test. Had a ton of calculations, HIV, and cancer. Just realize if you are getting a lot of hard questions you are doing good (I didnt think that way at the time, due to a little condition called OCD, lol).

I just found out that I passed my naplex with plenty of room to spare. Thanks to you all and good luck to all the people who are planning to take it soon.

Just took the test...I feel like I failed. I came back home and looked up so many questions I remembered and I got them all wrong. Lots of dumb guesses. If this test is indeed adaptive, then I feel even worse. I got a lot of easy questions at the end, very straight forward questions with no profiles. Hardly any chemo...a few HIV, a lot of math that I thought I did OK on (except for 2 I know I got wrong), but wtf, the math just kept coming back. I also ran out of time. I was so slow in the beginning, for some reason I was VERY relaxed, and I realized by the first hour I was only on question 30. Then I panicked, started speeding through the next 70 questions because I calculated quickly that I needed to be done with 100 questions by the next hour to be in good shape for the 2nd half of the test. While I sped, I neglected to read patient profiles or allergies, a mistake I did not realize until the break time when I collected myself. By the next 85 questions, I had good time, but I found myself answering a lot of easy questions, realizing that by then, it was probably too late, the test adapted itself to be easy. I just don't know...I don't feel good about it. If I pass, I passed with a low score. This is pathetic. I get good grades, I take pride in knowing a lot, yet I panic for the first time on the supposedly very last test of my student years. Talk about a complete shut down. I never used to fall under pressure. 1 year of rotations without real tests and all of a sudden, I forget how to study for or take a test. I feel like crap...

I took it on the 17th and got my score today. 135! I got 137 on the pre-NAPLEX. I just want to tell everyone, DON'T WORRY!

I didn't think it was easy and I was definitely worried (despite the 98% pass rate at my school). I kept thinking horrible thoughts, etc. Looking back, I guess it was pretty easy! Hindsight is 20/20.

Pre-NAPLEX 1: 119
Pre-NAPLEX 2: 114
NAPLEX: 135 🙂

I took the MA MPJE this past Monday (7/27) and all I can say is that it kicked my butt!!! 😡

ahhhh I took my test today ! I only had one HIV question ( I wish I had more ), a lot of antibiotics, only 2 stat questions ( thank God ) , few OC questions , one structure related to MOA, a lot of drug info questions, no cancer, and the other disease states were equaly distributed. I got a fair amount of maths questions, I had to guess on some of them...ugh 😱

I read over a set of articles that was in Pharmacy Practice News a few years ago (2005) By Ivan Oransky. They are short and easy to understand. I read through these twice and it was the only stats review I did. They are available or their website after free registration.
They are titled:

"Why Size Matters"
"The 5% Solution to Reading Medical Studies With Confidence"
"Statistically Speaking Risk: It's All Relative"
"Numbers You Need To Treat, To Harm--and To Understand"

Thanks so mch for posting this information here.It was very helpful to me.

Studied one day for the NAPLEX....thought I did horrible and was very surprised when I received my score

There's really no point in studying other than reviewing for a maximum of a week... this is stuff we have seen for 4 years... at this point you either know it or you dont

Hi Guys,
The journey has come to an end successfully and I am so thankful to God. Passed my NAPLEX and MPJE and am enjoying the profession.
Good luck and God's grace to all.

For people in FL, can you suggest some materials to study for the MPJE? I am from NY but want to get a job in FL
thanks

Hello Guys,
I passed the NAPLEX... it was definitely hard with random questions, however I studied the kaplan and practised the calculations 3 times which i feel helped me a lot. Definitely know the top 200 brand and generics. Also please know major or specific side effects of common medications or antibiotics.
Goodluck to everyone who is taking the naplex.

I take my MPJE for NEW JERSEY on AUG 14th... Any suggestions?

Are you serious?
congrats you should be very intelligent.
I don't advise anybody to take the NAPLEX without previously reviewing.

I agree with you gustavo32 & congratulations, btw!

I don't necessarily equivocate little preparation & a good NAPLEX score with "intelligent," but it's funny that condescending people like to imply that, eh? 🙄

Best of luck to all those who still have to take the exam! Try not to fret....you're almost there!! [& it's okay if you actually feel the need to put in more than a week. 😛]

I got a 130. I don't know how. Maybe my subconscious pulled me through all the questions. However, I do know that I got almost all of my calculations correct. You probably did fine though. I'm starting to realize that the majority of us who panic are the ones who just usually perform a lot better.

To Sap : I also took the law already. Don't know how that went. I took it two weeks after Naplex. It was one of those tests that you finish easily but then say, I have no idea what I got b/c on most questions I can say that at least two of them sounded really good. I hate those kind of tests. I don't recommend taking two weeks of a break. I think only one week is necessary. That way you can study new stuff in that one week and still remember all the old stuff you studied for the NAPLEX. Goodluck to you on Friday!

Hey Everyone! I just took the Naplex on June 17th and passed with a score of 119! yeah!!!😀😀👍 I have to tell you though the exam is a BEAST!!! I got such off the wall questions. My advice to anyone who is studying for it is to pray. If anyone has any specific questions regarding what to study or how I can be of help please let me know!!! Good luck all. Also selling all my stuff. I have Lang Q and A Question bank CD and APHA and Kaplan. Also Have a Morris Cody 2009 Naplex Review CD. Will give good price on entire package if you are interested.

Thanks and good luck all!

do u still have the material. i am interested. please write

thanks

Don't sweat over NAPLEX. I took NAPLEX in mid-June, I studied ~ 2 weeks (4-5 hrs/day) including 3 days of Kaplan live review, and I feel like I wasted my time studying for it too much. I didn't do ASHP, or pre-NAPLEX.

Really, going through pharmacy school is the best prep for NAPLEX... I wasn't an A student but got 130.

Hey Flexeril,
I took the law, and boy was it hard, i sat there for almost the whole time rereading the random questions with "MUST" and "MAY" and some of them I had no clue, I mean I studied the KAPLAN, did questions from mpjemadeeasy.com and pharmacyexam.com and reiss and hall book, however I was still extremely confused.
I hope I passed. Will let you know

I took my NAPLEX on 8/17. Definitely not a breeze but many of the questions were "gimmes." I can't say for certain that I passed but I'll have to wait like everybody else. On to the CPJE and MPJE Nevada.

Several questions on medications that were obscure. Study the APhA book very well, and know those dosage forms.(ie. Drug X is available in injection, tablet, or transdermal patch). Know those mechanisms of action. We were given a review session at Midwestern-Glendale. That review book obviously did not prepare me for this morning.(ie ileostomies and other disease states were not covered in here) APhA is the way to go.

I just came out of the exam and feel like it was indeed very tough. I think I was well prepared for the exam but I was bombarded with more than 60-70% of profiles. Again there very few direct questions and lot of hospital related questions. I think internship in retail setting did not help me much. I am scared as it is tough to study all over again.......I am keeping my hopes alive as some of forum members thought that they would fail but they passed with flying colors...

You and I must have had the same test. Most of my test were profile questions, and I had a couple of hospital questions. There was no real way to prepare for that. Like you, I have no real desire to study for this again. WE'll hear from them in 10 days or so.

I don't know why most of the people feel that they won't be able to pass but they end up passing the test (obviously a great thing). It will be interesting to know how they score the test. Anyways I am hoping that you, me and others who gave the exam get the great news soon.

seriously? that's pretty arrogant and discouraging. i don't necessarily advocate for over-studying, i.e. months, but i know one week would not be enough. . . yes, we have touched upon these subject at some point during our education, but it doesn't mean we've seen/applied the information QD of our schooling.

anyway, going into both exams, i was nervous. but after each exam, i walked out feeling that the exams were not as daunting as i had initially thought. don't get me wrong, i did not walk out feeling like i passed. but that feeling of the 'unknown' was lifted and like many people say, just relax and be confident that you know enough to pass. 🙂

Hey guys,
passed law and naplex in NJ
thanks for all the support. if anyone needs material pls let me know

ok i passed the damn thing... here is some insight for those of you studying:

I studied the calculations hard about 3 weeks before the exam- luckily the type of stuff they ask, like 10% of this mixed with 2meq of that at this drip rate blah blah (gets confusing under pressure but if you know simple dimensional analysis, you should be fine with this, just know all the conversions)
then i dropped everything and studied for the law for about a week, took the law and then studied on and off for 2 weeks, just therapeutics stuff- i did not use the apha or any of that stuff, just went off my notes from school (which were very messy) and also memorized the top 200 brand and generic and popular dosage forms (pronto pass poster), i memorized that so much i puke when i see it.

now the exam- it will mess you up because you wont know the dosage forms of every little thing... i would not waste time studying this, not time efficient. so you sit there and get depressed, but there are a lot of easy questions which you don't really think about... like do nsaids cause GI bleeds etc... so know the general concepts really well and and the simple mathand what will happen is you will think you failed but you will pass

weird exam, i hope they change it

btw, i got 98...when took the pre naplex i got 70... but i wasn't doing the calculations because something was wrong with my computer and the calculator didnt pop up

Do you think that any of the math problems are the experimental problems? Are the experimental problems in case format or stand alone???
I had tons of math on mine( 40 questions or so), one right after another.....I had to guess a lot on the math towards the end because I ran out of time..... I looked up at least 10 questions that I got wrong already....:scared:

Does anyone have ANY insight on how this is graded? Like point values of math vs case questions?

My score came in white paper. No green paper whatsoever.

I took the test on 8/14, got results 8/21.

90 questions I was 95-100% about
40 questions I narrowed it down to 2 or 3 choices so about 33-50% sure
55 questions I had no clue.

I came out with a 124.

I didn't feel too good after the test, but I came out alright. 🙂

I'm taking the MPJE tomorrow.
