Just looking for some advice on which schools to apply to. Post bacc student and Louisiana resident - Overall GPA: 3.49 Science GPA: 3.56 Have not taken the DAT yet so that will factor into this when that time comes

Schools I have listed so far:

1. LSU (state school)
2. Creighton
3. Lecom
4. Louisville
5. New England
6. Boston
7. Tufts
8. NYU
9. Case Western (Ohio)
10. University of Pennsylvania
11. Meharry
12. Marquette
13. Loma Linda

I'm in the initial stages of narrowing these schools down, and basically selected these schools based on the percentage of out state students accepted (above 50%). Some other schools that were a little less than 50%:

Colorado
Ostrow (USC)
Connecticut
Nova
Iowa
Kentucky
Maryland
University of Detroit
Michigan
Minnesota
Nebraska
West Virginia

Is there any that I should remove from the initial list (top), or maybe some I should add from the secondary list (bottom)? Or any other advice? All suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks!

take the DAT first before posting this, its too hard to gauge how competitive you are without the DAT score

I'm so jealous that your from Louisiana...... of course tyjacobs is right about needing your DAT first before you can gain any solid advice since it is such a huge portion of your app, but there is no harm in looking. Anyways I think you should consider just looking at UNLV, Arizona, and Rutgers.

Thank you both for the response..I'll come back with the question after the DAT. Haha why are you jealous about me living in Louisiana if you don't mind me asking?

I'm just wondering why you would nonchalantly include Rutgers? It's a great school and all, but i wouldn't include it in his list.

They give preference to surrounding states, and even more preference to NJ natives. The class size is pretty small, and with an average DAT of 22, the OP would have to pretty damn well to stand out.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but I just don't see the point in risking $98 (plus $85 secondary fee) on such a competitive OOS school school..

Hey @Organsm,

I added Rutgers to the list since OP already had Maryland on his/her list. Both Maryland and Rutgers have the average DAT of 21 (this listed on their website, so I'm not certain where you got 22). I'm not saying that a 21 isn't hard to achieve, but I'd assume OP knew that by having Maryland on their list. I would personally put Rutgers and Maryland on equal footing, so that is why I listed OP should check our Rutgers.

Since we don't know jmcunnin's DAT yet, I wanted to give him/her a few more schools that are already in the range of the lists he/she made and all of those schools are in quite a range.

I am in love with LSU and how clinically orientate they are, but alas I'm not from Louisiana or Arkansas.

BTW- I just noticed that you have UConn on your list. Make sure you understand that although UConn is 40-50% out of state most of those people are from New England states. Their class demographic is 50-60% Connecticut, 30% New England states, and then 10% everyone else. I'm not telling you not to apply obvi, but since you specifically looking for OOS friendly schools; I would relook this school.

Thank you..this is the type of information I was looking for. I'll definitely reconsider.
