I'm a first year dental student, so I don't really know much about the national boards yet. Can someone give me an idea as to what is an average to above average score? What score would you say is needed for specialty programs if you are in the top 10% of your class?

The NDB1 average always varies each year. In the past two years, the average for NDB1 has been in the mid-80s.

As for the scores to apply to specialty programs, I think it really depends on which specialty you want to get into. Ortho and endo programs will probably want mid-to-high 90s whereas prostho will probably require scores of 85 or above.

Hope this helps you.
