Hi,

Has anyone ever heard of National Dean's List? I got the letter in mail saying that I was selected for it, and now I am in for a scholarship. Apparently only 1% of students get selected.They do not say what criteria plays role in the selection except that students are chosen based on thier achievement Anyway, I have never heard of them before, and I never got anything from my University reagrding this list.I am wondering what kind of list is this.
😕

your dean's office sends a list to this "national deans list" thing of kids with at least a B+ (3.3) average that semester.

that is all

if your not on the national deans list and you DID have a B+ average in a particular semester, then your deans office is just lazy.

Oh ok, so that means that they were lazy untill this semestar 😀 Thanks.
So...I guess that's not worth of puting on the award section in apps? I do not have any awards then :laugh:

Actually, I think diff schools have diff cut-offs. My bf and I think that at our school, you have to have a 4.0 semester gpa to get on it.

Are there diff dean's lists? for my school we have these two cutoffs:

Dean's List—you must earn a semester grade point average that places you in the top third of all undergraduates in Trinity College.
Dean's List with Distinction—you must earn a semester grade point average that places you in the top 10% of all undergraduates in Trinity College.

There's no mention of national dean's list

for our school itself, there's only 1 dean's list i think (unless there's some other, higher-gpa one that i've just never heard of b/c i've never been on it 😉 ), and the cut-off for that is 3.7 avg for the whole yr.

Honestly, my theory is that this is a marketing campaign (sorry, not to rain on anyone's parade) from a company who found a great way to make money. I recieved the same letter in the mail, and it said that I was nominated by the Chairman of the Music Dept at a liberal arts college in CA.
My supporting facts for my theory are:

a.) I didn't go to school in CA, and am far from being a music major. However it said the correct school that I'm attending at the bottom of the letter;

b.) It musn't have been a mix up because I have a very unique middle and last name;

c.) it really is just encouraging you to buy the book (they'll publish your name for free) and other memorabilia;

d.) it offers a "free" scholarship search with a minimal membership fee (something you can do on your own for free via the internet);

e.) it's got other lists such as Who's Who in High School (or something like that) and recognition for outstanding teachers.

Of course their marketing strategies worked on me because I couldn't resist buying that plaque with my name on it. Hehe... I didn't buy the book because it says you can find it in public libraries.

Anyhow, it's just a little theory of mine. I don't anticipate including it on my AMCAS, but that's just me. 🙂

I agree that its just a marketing thing to make money.

Although I did get a letter from the National Dean's List and I confirmed with my school's Academic dean that he did send them my name.

It may be a cool book to have on your coffee table. Then you can tell people you're listed in it... And then they stare at you cause they've never heard of it before....

it really is a marketing scheme. it's pretty much analogous to the who's who among american high school students. i get these stuff like every year. i fill out the questionaire and everything ecept buying their products cuz i'm too cheap hahaha.

whats a dean? heh... heh

im serious
