Hey there -

I was just wondering if any NPs or PAs out there had any experience with the NHSC scholarship programs. If you do, please share...

I had several classmates who did nhsc. nice deal. stipend while in school + all school related expenses.after graduation you owe them 2 yrs working in a health provider shortage area. for those who do not qualify for the "scholars program" as described above they have a loan repayment option that pays back yr for yr but then you miss out on the stipend.

It sounds like a good deal... I am wondering though... if I do not come from a disadvantaged background or am a former NHSC scholar can I still qualify for the program? Also, were your classmates exceptional students with great GPAs? I would really appreciate your insight!

I was accepted into the Loan Repayment Program. My GPA, nor background, had anything to do with my acceptance. I can't speak for how they do or don't apply to the scholarship program. If you are thinking about doing it, I can't stress enough that you apply early! It took about 6 months for my application to be processed and approved for the LRP program. That was 6 months I didn't get any credit for at my site. My mistake was not applying for it before I started working there. When I searched online to see if they qualified for LRP the site wasn't listed, even though they did in fact qualify.
