I know it is recommended to only put college awards and achievements on your application, but should I mention that I am a National Merit Scholar? It may have been awarded in high school but I feel that it's something that would impress the admissions boards.

Why wouldn't you include it? There is no way it could possibly negatively impact your application... but who knows, maybe it could do one iota of good.
I know that interviewers have brought up things from my app taht I thought were completely insignificant before, so it could happen. Who knows?

I don't think it would "impress" them, as I'm sure they see a lot of National Merit Scholars, but it definitely wouldn't hurt you to throw it in an "honors and awards" entry. You probably shouldn't make it its own entry.

No, it won't. Numbers and personality impress adcoms.

They do not care about anything from high school unless it is really significant. Being a national merit scholar is not something that will jump out at them and will just take up space. Too many times pre-meds toss in everything they possibly can into their application which ends up cluttering it up. You want important things to stand out, not be missed in the plethora of random experiences you have accumulated merely to look good.

I don't think they'll give a single ****. But put it if you feel the need.

Only if it's from a leet state like CA or MA where National Merit actually means something. No one cares about your 204 PSAT Score getting you National Merit from bumf***, Arkansas.
