Disclaimer: This thread is based on the premise that the majority of premeds are *******s. Myself included. We may not all work the long hours that gunners do but we have that mentality somewhat. Lastly, lets be honest, many of us will lie in our interviews about how much we love everything and everyone in medicine.

Now here is the question: do premeds have the premed mentality because of the effects of the premed environment, or has natural selection (the curve, the mcat, and the application process) weeded out everyone who wasnt already born with a premed mentality.

This thread is to be taken very seriously as if you can't tell this is a super serious subject.
P.S. I know this is a trollish thread, the above sentence is sarcasm, and I am tired of talking about important stuff like medicine that I care less about. On the plus side, I love everyone's troll detected pictures, when this thread finally gets locked Ill PM the winner with my favorite "A winner is you" picture.

Sorry for responding to trollish thread...

I don't have an A*hole attitude. Also, don't lie in your interviews. Just don't talk about the parts of medicine you think suck. You can dodge questions all day without being negative, go watch any political debate.

Although, I do think there is a 20% or so of pre-med who are the loud minority that make up this pre-med stereotype.

Happy Trolling!

To the OP, I have always been an academic ******* at heart -- but the pre-med status [and its intrinsic requirements] brought upon the manifestation of the disease out of it's latent stage.

So my answer is: both nature and nurture.

The trait was there; premed amplifies it. 😡

Yep, same here.

This isn't a nature vs. nurture debate. This is a cause/ effect debate. I'd say, like everything, isn't black and white. I got good grades my first semester because I had the personality to do it (cause). I kept good grades because I met pre-meds, did research, and realized how competitive med school admission is (effect).

Doesn't cause and effect essentially fall under the "nurture" category of the "nature/nurture" argument?

For example, Billy was a sweet young man until he went to university and decided to become a premed. Over the course of the next 3 years Billy became quite the bastard and due to the toxic M.O. of the application game Billy grew into a regular *******.

The system nurtured Billy to harvest the developments. Billy became premed and consequently became an *******.

Nurture...Cause/effect.... same thing.

The real issue is "Which is stronger? The nature or nurture facet."
My guess is that it simply depends on the individual.

Are we talking about the same Billy here?
