Hey, I was wondering if anyone was going to join one of the branches of military during med school? Anybody know how long you have to be in it after residency?

You might want to try the military medicine forum here on SDN. 4 years active, 4 years reserve is the commitment.

There are A LOT of drawbacks and many many bitter people regarding mil med, so do your research. Common theme is, don't do it for the money or you too will hate it.

Yeah, go to the mil med forum. I toyed with the idea of HPSP a lot for the last few months, but I decided to suck it up and take the loans and do FAP (the military loan repayment program) instead, after med school and before residency. Look up FAP HPSP in the mil medicine forum and you'll get a great thread comparing the two.

hey thats cool sunset =D i was thinking of doing the same thing. Take on some loans and then look into the FAP. I still would need to research that one a lot before I go that route though.

Yup, looked a lot into it myself. I decided FAP was the way to go for me. Definitely check out the military forum. There are great posters there, and you'll find everything you need to know.
