I am a Navy wife looking to go back to school. My dilema for the last next 10 years is that we will be moving every 2-3 years. I have begun to look at online MSW programs that are portable. USC MSW with the emphasis in military care is very appealing to me. But NOT the price. Is this type of program worth it? Are there any recommendations for other online programs? I have also heard of UNE. It is almost half the price of the USC program but not as prestigious. I would love some input.

ALSO, I am curious about licensure. I am interested in working as a civilian for the Navy or with the VA and believe their requirements are just to be licensed in ANY state. But I am unsure how long it takes to get one's license? Do I have any hope of attaining one if I live in a place for only 2 years?

Thanks in advance!

You should be able to complete the classroom work for a residential/traditional MSW program within 2 years. I'd advise against an online program, as they are not as well respected and the training does not appear equivalent...at least from what I've seen.

Hi Gingersmom,

😱 I am having the same dilema here. I am having trouble deciding whether to do USC or UNE they are both accredited by the CSWE. The only downside of USC is the BIG price tag and UNE is that it's not prestigious and it also takes 4 years to complete. There is also another online program with the University of North Dakota-they have a large waiting list and the next cohort is until 2013 🙁. I have been looking for some feedback online from USC and UNE from students enrolled but I have no LUCK! Please let me know if you find useful information about either program, if you don't mind. I will also share with you some info, hopefully we decide together and start our program together as well! 🙂
