Hey guys/gals,

I am starting dental school this Fall and this question has been lingering in my mind for a while now. Does a student need both General Pathology and Systemic Pathology (which is both taught at my school) before he/she takes the boards?

I would say systemic path would definately help but wouldn't necessarily be required. It depends on how well you want to do on the boards. If you just want to pass, general path is sufficient b/c you can pick up the rest from decks and stuff.

Thanks a lot buddy, I really appreciate it. I will try to do well on the test so I guess I will have to wait until the end of my second year in order to take part 1.

Thanks again 👍

If you really want to do well you don't absolutely have to take the class. It just means less studying when boards comes around. I can understand the allure of taking them after your first year to get them out of the way but it means a lot of work. Best to ask others at your school who have done it.

What does "decks" mean?

"deck" of flash cards that contain 95%* of what is to be covered on the National Boards Part1.

*disclaimer: merely a guess.....dont hold me against it. 😀
