Hi Guys,
Why don't we start NBDE-2 score thread and the experience associated with the exam. Please feel free to jolt down your total part-2 preperation schedule and books used for the success , and share with everybody.
Thanks.👍

I just got done with day I today. I was just wondering what day 2 consisted of and if there was anything in particular I should review tonight?

Day 2 consists of case study questions. Generally, I would advise you to relax and get a good night of sleep but in reality I reviewed my Pharma and oral patho for a couple of hours before day 2. It seems to have worked since I passed it. 😎 Good luck to you...

Hi all,

my exam is in one week.. i have studied off and on for the exam with clinics. Done decks and busters book once but still to do the past papers. gonna start today with papers. 5 days??? :scared: some friends suggested i move the exam date, others are like just get done with it.

How hard is exam? Should i think about moving the exam one week? but i have to get done with it in month of march itself. 😕

any inputs? what to focus on..how helpful were the past papers?

Thank you.

Apparently there is a NERB packet going around, which basically is the gist of the exam. Does anyone have the NERB packet that they can send via personal message. I would really really forever be greatful to you!! thank you!

My overall score 365/500 (includes 67/100 on case based) and comp score is just 72%. It just seems unfair to me. Anyone else with similar scoring?

Many on this thread have gotten scores around 380/500 giving them comp score in the 80s. There is someone with 335/500 and got 71%. My score just seems very unfair!!

Are you sure you didnt add your case score in twice? 365/500 should give you 73% without the curve and with the curve probably around 77-79% depending on how hard it was. But other than that your total percent can't be lower than the number of questions you answered right. So, if you added your cases in twice your real score is 298/500 which is 60% which could give you a 72% with a curve. I think this might be what happened, but if you're sure you didn't add it twice then there is a problem and you should call and make sure.

No its 365 altogether and I called them and explained the same logic and the person that I spoke to said that comp score is irrelevant of the standard score, but I think its just totally ridiculous that my actual percentage score is higher than the comp score let alone the fact that no "curve" was applied!

Has anyone taken a further step to get the score recomputed or get the questions rechecked or anything along those lines?!

i have just received my scores and failed again... 327/500 with a 74...if only i havent changed those correct choices to incorrect answers!!!
anyways, what is done is done. i really feel like i need a partner to study with this time. anyone interested living in ny area, let me know.

hiiiii there

i m living in Jersey city and u can contact me on [email protected]👍

I got my score yesterday, I passed!!! Here is the score:

#of q/ my # of correct /national mean
Operative 57/ 42/ 41.7
Pharm 38 /33/ 26.6
Prosth 61/ 43/ 42.4
OS/Pain Contr. 56/ 33 /37.0
Ortho/Pedo 71 /59/ 50.9
Endo 36 /31 /28.9
Perio 62 /50/ 43.9
Oral Path&Rad 56/ 49/ 40.4
Pat.Man. 63/ 40 /42.4
Cases 100 /81 /67.5

Computed score 83.

I took the exam on June 1&2, got the results on June 25.

It was a very hard exam, I'm happy that I passed it, but I have the feeling that I could have done a little better. There were a lot of stress from personal factors and the time I took the exam, and I think that took away few points from my score.

I studied for about 6-7 months, intensely the last 2 months. My study material and comments:
- Mosby 2-3 times, it explains quite well with enough details to unrestand
- First Aid NBDE 2-3 times, a good review book, has some details that are missed in Mosby
- Decks 2008 - very good study material, but only decks are not enough to pass the test
- Tufts I liked the explanations for the answers, helped settle down what i learned from Mosby and First Aid
- First Aid USMLE 1 - I used it for Pharmacology, other books miss some important but easy to remember info
- released papers - twice, got some repeats from them, but not much
- Kaplan Q Bank - very useful, I learned a lot from their explanations.

I feel that it was a very tough exam. For the last few months I couldn't think of anything else but the exam, and I was so happy to get back to life!!!
The second day was a little easier, and I guess I passed the test mostly because of the second day score. I marked all the questions that I had doubths in my answer and I got about half for the both days, it's about 250q. I missed 120q on the test, so I can say that about half of the marked qs I got right.

There were a lot of tricky questions from Behaviour and Epidemiology, which are not explained enough in the books that I read. I had a feeling that Prosth is not enough explained, but after the exam I think it was ok. I also read few pages from Art and Science of Operative Dentistry for instruments.

Keep studying and you will pass, it is just a test and it is made to be passed, just don't give up!

most probably you added you case score twice. the case questions were also included in the category questions.

my overall score 328/500 (with 57/100 in case) made me pass part II a little bit even though the computed score is ugly.

you'd better to call ADA to make sure.

good luck for you.

@ Denty8833

Thanks!
You should pay lots of attention to Behaviour Management if you want to have a good score. In Mosby it's not much, but you should know by heart at least that. There were many questions not covered by Mosby, so if you have a chance and time to read it from somewhere else it will help you a lot. Epidemiology is not covered enough eather...

Hey can u suggest any source where we can study behaviour management from?
And what about Implants?
Thank You.

Thanks

But the thing is I am not feeling that i am studying something !! It is all about insurance , analysis studies!!! It is all lab lab lab, nothing about real management of pts!!! It was all about insurance and stuff like that
Ppo, HMO, IHD .. ets
So just review and know general things abt it enough? Or u meant to memorize everything abt it???
I will study decks too, do u mean I should find another source? Like first aid?

😀So I just recently got my scores back and I passed my first time, I got an 81. First don’t get worried if your score doesn’t come; it took 4 weeks for me to get my score. Classmates that took the exam the same day as me got it back in 2 weeks. Even though mine was postmarked the same day they had I guess it got lost in the mail my luck. I studied for about 6 weeks and I was kind of surprised I didn’t do better I got an 81. I personally didn’t like decks for part 1 and again for part 2. I basically used a mixture of Mosby and Board buster. I liked the layout of board buster a lot. For pharm I used Tufts which was just as much as you need make sure you know it inside out and you will be good for that section. This exam is not about numbers or regurgitation it is about understanding and thinking so don’t worry about memorizing try to understand. For ortho it was weird I dont even think I got one straight ortho question but I guess they mix it in somehow. Old exams I did most of them but honestly I don’t think they are useful or relevant, just do the latest 2 released exams and you will get an understanding of the exam look at the released exam early in your studying so you can see the ridiculous questions they ask. If you are really paranoid and even better thing than going through all those oldies there is a tufts review thick binder where it has oldies with explanations(every section that instructors put together pretty old though) do that instead of the older released exams if you have time and are worried. Don’t worry about how you score on them I was scoring around 65% but it doesn’t matter don’t score yourself those released exam have some ******ed questions that aren’t as hard as the exam but it will give you an idea of the way they are able to figure out questions to ask that make you think. They ask a lot of real world stuff that you do all the time and you can’t look up the answer or read it in a book. I would say know complete dentures very well but RPD very minimal. The second day are questions that if you ask 20 dentist you would get 20 answers so just hope that you are thinking like them, that is why it might be beneficial if you look at the Dental Secretes book I think. After day 1 I would just review occlusion and some basic numbers stuff like eruption, maybe some path pictures. You can’t really prepare for the second day and don’t get frustrated when the radiographs are blurry and you can’t see anything on them.
I never had anxiety in my life before and this exam gave it to me. Don’t trip out about the exam it is not a big deal just put in the time and you will be fine. Everyone gets through it. Some of the post on SDM really mess with your head so be careful but honestly the exam is not that big of a deal and we will an all get through it eventually. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. I hated dental school especially boards , there is no reason it should be so hard but we will all get through it stay positive make sure you understand what your studying don’t just memorize, practice your breathing when you get nervous and you will get through it.
Don’t forget to give back post positive things help boost moral we are all in it together. Don’t wait till you get your results post your experience before you get your results so its fresh in your memory and it will help us gauge how we are doing THANKS SDN
After reading this i can think of one word ..........THANKS

Thanks

You're right, the info about insurance is not that tough, and it will be enough to know the generals about it, so you could come up with an answer based on what you've read.

The sections from Mosby Behaviour that gave me hard time and I wish I knew them better for the exam are: 3. Evaluation of Dental Literature, 8. Health belief models and health behaviour, 9. Stress, Dental anxiety, and Pain. There is more info about Behaviour in Pedo section of Mosby. There is no Behaviour in First Aid NBDE, but there is in First Aid USMLE 1, but I didn't review that. I will read it just for my general knowledge.

You sound quite stressed out. You're going to be fine, just try to be as calm as you can on the day of the exam.

General12345 is right, try to understand what you're learning. There are few subjects that you literally have to memorize, much fewer than in NBDE 1.

I can add that i was surprised by the quality of the images and the x-Rays on my exam. I don't think that I could zoom then in, but I was able to see what I needed. They test your ability to pay attention to details and do the differential diagnosis, and some answers come up from the question, I was just confirming it with the picture.

Good luck to everyone!

A candidate is eligible for the NBDE Part II only after successful completion of the NBDE Part I.
Exceptions to this provision are granted only at the specific written request of a dental licensing
board. In case of exception, the candidate's scores are reported, but no National Board
Certificate is issued. The candidate must not have failed the NBDE Part I within the past five
years.
Such a request must be presented on the letterhead of the board of dentistry and must
indicate that NBDE Part II results will be a determinant in the initial or continued licensure of the
candidate.
My question is if we failed the part1.We cant take the part 2 for next 5 yrs?
Thanks..

People who have passed the test can you please post your experience on the scores that you got when u answered the practice questions after each chapter and the sample test at the back of the book. Please post .
Plus whats the best source for oral surgery? Decks are extensive and Mosbys doesn't cover well. Please share your experience . I am freaking out here :scared:

Hey ,,

thank you very much .. that was very helpful 🙂

You can take part 2 as long as you have passed part 1. The 5 yr rule applies if you have NOT passed part 1 yet.

I am not able to understand the cancellation policy.
Can I cancel my exam, and again schedule it on my desired test date?
On ADA website, it says If I cancel it will lead to fortification of my exam fee.

Please guys clarify this.
Can I do all this online or do i have to contact ada ?
Thanks.

aaaaaaaaah at last i can breathe again! i finally got my part 2 score with a comp score of 83.

I studied from Mosby's, dental decks, released exams and Kaplan Q bank...for about 3 months and part time because i work in the afternoons.

Overall I didnt find the exam as hard as most people say it is...some ppl had me scared to death...but if u study enough youre good to go 🙂 make sure to be well rested and have a clear head on both exam dates, last minute studying will do much more harm than good.

Good luck to all!!!

damn seems like everyone is getting 83... me included... relax, if youre smart do well in dental school, study hardcore for 2-3 weeks with chances to take recent practice tests. Hardcore studying Oral Surgery/Pain and you should be fine.

🙂hello friends!!i was reading this last post and i want some of you to help me!!!i have my exam coming again for second attempt on the 15 and 16 of august , i already did mine in december 2010, my results in that moment were 361 over 500, and 61 questions over 100 the second day!!!this i think is not fair!!!i saw people with less score passing!!!! I got 72!!,, now i am soooo scared!!!!i need help!!!can somebody tell me about this nerb thing???are review questions???i am studying 8 hours per day and i need to pass!this is my last step!!!!i already did my residency program, my fl state board, everything and just need to pass this nbde part 2 to get my fl licence!!!!!please help!!!!!adviced needed in emergency!!!!!waiting for respose from you guys and thanks in advance!!!!!

Hi raidela; in reality you got 300 question correct out of 500. The second day score is already counted in. if you calculate all the number of questions in the exam before the case base questions, you will see that it adds up to 500. That should take care of your confusion. Study a bit harder and you will pass. Good luck 😉

🙂hello!!!thanks for your help and quick answer!!! Ah....so how much i will need to pass? I have my exam coming the next 15 and 16 of august! And i am studying questions and reviewing board busters, dental secrets..... And average of 6 to 8 hours a day!!!i am scared!!!!that is my last test to finish before my licence!!!!thanks for your response!!!should i change my exam? I am studying like this for about tree weeks now, and before with a more slow way!!!!!🙂🙂, i just want to get done with this!!!!this is a nightmare!!!!i dont have a life!!!!thanks again!!!!

Hello
I am starting to study for part 2. Can u please tell me what should I be studying from? Like waht books to use? dental decks etc etc. ??

I TOOK THE EXAM IN DEC AND GOT AN 81.
ican say the exam is tough and vague... many pt. management qs... which seems like all the options r feasible . and the day 2 was hell as said by all others i was all theway scratching my head to see the xrays and fotos despite my futile attampt 2 score well in day2...day 1 is tough too but u can still answer except fr the pt management n ethics. i think we need 2 go thru ethics and law codes....which is praCTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE...SO i think if we atleast prepare fr subjs on day 1 well we can pass.i think we shud go back 2 textbooks fr atleast some of the topics if not the whole textbooks. its a 2-3 yr course back there we r takling in 2 day exam.. so we ve 2 work hard. i hope i helped some by this post. good luck 2 all.

Stupid question coming up, but only because the rumor is stupid. You know how you can select states to send results to? The rumor I heard is that selection of certain states will alter the difficulty of the exam as in make it tougher or not as tough. I don't believe this. That's false, right?

Because some schools ask for both, part 1 and part 2 which will increase the number of schools that you can apply to and even if the school asks just for part one, taking part 2 will improve your application and you will have a better chance to get accepted.
