Thanks Mvyr
i studied dental decks, first aid, some part of mosby and previous papers. i studied around 3 months

I took mine 3/2010, results were mailed 2 weeks later.

382/500
79/100

Overall 82

I studied decks: went through all the cards twice except for Pharm and Pedo I NEVER looked at.
First Aid: read through once, it was general but solidified random facts
Mosby: read the ortho chapter and referenced a few items
For pharm: Read a 30 page pharm packet which taught me everything I need to know about pharm on the test.
For pedo: Temple allows you to do a lot of pedo and I have done a lot, so i figured it was enough. Just know the difference between apexification and apexogenesis.👍

I took mine on early April and got my score today.

Overall score 405
Cased based 75
Comp score: 85

I studied for about 3 months, 10-12 hrs/day on average, using Decks and Mosby's as the primary resources. I also used First Aid and textbooks. I found that the Tuft's pharmacology review was really helpful. Endo section in Mosby's was sufficient.

I took my Part 2 NBDE exam on April 5th and 6th and I got my result today, on April 22nd. This was my 6th attempt and I finally passed, and you can do it too ... It is still surreal to me.

355/500
65/100
Score: 80

I am so humbled by my experience of the last two years of struggling to pass... But now that I finally obtained it, I am so grateful for all of ppl who encouraged me and also very helpful folks in this student doc website.. Thank you all.😍

If I did it, You can do it too-Do not ever give up!!
Always move on forward no matter what happens in your career 🙂

I believe that there is no "one" way to pass this exam, and I am willing to share my own experience to show you how I passed this time.

After failing five times, I just sat down and analyzed my scores for each subjects. For all the five times I took it, my particular weakness was operative dentistry, prosthodontics, and case based items. So i told myself, I will study each every subject hard but I will hit those three subjects even harder. So i digged up my old class notes(I finished dent school in May 2008) for operative dentistry and prosthodontics and I just started reading them every day and every morning. It just became ritual to me and I always gave my priority to these subjects. As far as cased base items-my husband(who graduated with me) runs a dental office, and I went with him to his clinic and assisted him and read x-rays and discussed patient cases-I believe these things helped me a lot as far as keeping the knowledge current and fresh. .. and of course, I did old exam questions to know how they ask the questions as well.

For oral surg, ortho, and perio, I just did a lot of old exams and started figuring out the patterns and repeats... and (laughs) after studying these subjects for last two and half years, I got very familiar with these subjects. When I do old exam questions, if there is anything that I do not understand, I would look it up in the notes/textbooks/internet to figure out what it is. As far as telling you guys how many hours I studied each day... I studied however much I wanted to study each day which varies from 6hrs to just 30 mins a day- I always took wkds off to keep my sanity. Think of the studying period as a marathon-you want to give your brain some break after some studying. Make sure you are eating nutritious food, exercising, and most importantly-always look forward. Do not look back how you failed, but think about how great it would be to finally have passed it. That's how i coached myself through all this time and changing your perspective brings great change in your mind.

The day before the exam-remember to take it easy(I did not look at any studying material and I watched my fav DVD at home) and get plenty of sleep. I know I got at least 7 hrs of sleep and ate good breakfast.

I know each of you will pass. It is a matter of time and your day will come- Know that you can do it and you will. You can take me as an example.. I wont be responding to pms now, and I won't be much active in this forum so just to let you guys know. What I have shared in the thread should suffice and if you guys have any more questions, just post it on the forum for other colleagues to join and answer/help. G luck.

got my score back today,

took them april 5 and 6

got an 86....

dont know my raw score because i had them mailed back to my parents house , they told me the score over the phone.

studied decently for about 3 weeks, intense for last week of that.

read through decks once, reading the back of each card whether or not i knew the answer, didnt try to memorize anything

basically pounded through the mosby book reading it like a novel and thats about it,

looked at available old tests and wrote down each drug that appeared in old tests and made a list w/ basic usage or important facts of each.

walked out of the test thinking it was pretty easy compared to part 1

i got an 85 on part one.

It sucks that so many of you have failed multiple times across the board, my school has quite a few as well. I honestly thought the test was just as fair as part 1 and cannot figure out why the failure rate is so high, the fact that there is an investigation into the validity or fairness of the test, frankly seems ridiculous but yeah im glad to have it over with,

i would say the biggest surprise on the test was the behavioral mgmt stuff and stuff on like the business side of dentistry/insurance/provider types/ethics ------- i passed over the details of that stuff and probably got most of those questions wrong.

Wow, Mstoothy's story is an amazing story of determination!!!! Truly happy for you and a great score as well!! Congrats!!!

Now for narihari - you should call the ADA and see when you can call prometric to schedule your test. On my last 2 attempts, I never got an e-mail with the ok to call prometric, I just went ahead and called prometric w/my ssn and they went ahead and scheduled me. Good luck on your fourth try, it seems that lots more ppl are passing it nowdays!!!

Thanks odontologia. I just got off the phone with ADA. They said that as long as i have submitted a new application (which i did in oct 2009), they'll notify me around 1st wk of May to schedule for the test.

Weird!! what if Prometric center can't get me in....lets hope for the best. thanks again

Great effort to be praised. U r n inspiration to many on this thread. GoodLuck 🙂

I've already asked this on a different thread!

If one does well in all sections except pt managemnet, is it possible to pass?

I've already asked this on a different thread!

If one does well in all sections except pt managemnet, is it possible to pass?

I know that I didn't do so well in my pt mng section, but I still passed.
For pt's mng I got: 37 out of 60 while the national mean for this section was 43.1. I did perform other sections fairly well and I passed with 80.

I still have yet to figure out how they score the board exam, but I do believe that they have a different "weight" for different sections and I have a feeling that they do put emphasis on how you score on certain categories-like operative dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics. This make sense since these are the major areas that you will be dealing with as a general dentist and the board committee want to make sure you understand these areas well before they decide to pass you. This does not mean that you can ignore other subjects-please do study every subjects well but do concentrate these subjects and make sure you KNOW them.. like the palm of your hand.

Hope this helps... and best of the luck all of you. You can do this.

:luck:

Hope that helps 🙂

Congrats! That is an amazing score and you must be so relieved to have it over! How did you study for the test? Did you find this version easier? I am so nervous about taking it again soon!

TYSM for your congrats and I'm very relieved now... I have to admit that when the letter came from ADA for my test result, I was literally shaking from nervousness and I just threw the envelope in my drawer and didn't open it for an hour or so. 😛 When I finally gathered my courage to open it, my husband was there holding my hand and when we saw my "certificate" portion, we got thrilled and started jumping around.

Anyhow, enough of my story. To answer your question, I already posted earlier how i studied for this time so you can refer to the earlier thread of mine. Secondly, did i find this version easier? This is a tough question to answer since I am not sure if my preparation for the exam made the test easier or if the test itself was easy... I have to confess that there were some questions that I got baffled and had no idea what the answers were.. You just gotta do your best.

Last but not least, please do not get nervous. I understand that taking the board exam is a big deal and it's very important to do well to pass, but you need to relax as much as you can. Trust me, I have been there so many times and when I got too "excited" and nervous on the day of the exam, it interfered with my concentration and couldn't think straight. Remember to breathe and calm yourself down so you can think thoroughly and do well. Tell yourself this: I can do this and I wont let the test take me but I will take and conquer the exam!

Hope that helps, RockerDDS and ROCK that exam and please let me know how it goes!

Keep in touch!:xf::luck:

On my first attempt, I made a 74. And as everybody, I was heart broke. I was mad at the Joint Commission and everybody. But I knew I had to do it because my school would not let me graduate with out passing my part 2. Then you will have to register for one whole semester to take it the third time, and also they have this 3 time rule - if you dont pass part 2 in 3 tries, then you never earn your degree...you are dismissed from the school without a degree.

So that was my inspiration to get it done. I had a lot of support from my dear husband becasue we just could not afford to not get the degree. So I hit the book stores for Mosby's, bought ASDA 2L and 2M papers and Tufts review book from friends on this site. I still had my decks from my first attempt. I used first aid the first time and so did this time , I didnt even bother....

First I made a schedule for myself. I had exactly 10 weeks before the day I planned to take my test. So I planned on studing a subject for the whole week and then did questions for numerous sources over the weekend ( both saturday and sunday). On Monday, I started with a new subject again. I started with the subject that I scored the least on my first attempt. I followed this until I was done reviewing all subjects once. Then came the review part in the last week when I started going over all the subjects again. At this point I still didnt get any confirmation from the JCNDE and I also didnt feel very confident. So I pushed my exam from April 1st week to the 2nd week. Again I did another review for another week. Review consisted of going over the mosby's again, decks and ASDA papers, TUFTS review and some old released papers.

All in all, I studied mosby's twice, tufts review twice, tufts pharmacology- 4 times, decks - 3 times and ASDA papers: 3 times. .

After my test was over, I was scared not knowing whether I would pass or not because, I felt like I had to guess on a lot of questions. But there was a slight hope some where that I would make it...just because of all the hardwork I put in.

After waiting for about 2 weeks and 4 days, I finally got my result today and when I found out that I made an 81, I literally started crying... I could not believe it. I was just amazed...I just dont have words to explain how I am feeling right now.

Day 1: 356
Day 2: 62
Comp: 81

So, I thank you all SDNers for all the support and advice. And you all play a big role in my success ( apart from my lovely husband and my little angel)...

Thank you
Gmav

Congratulations Gmav... You are truly a trooper for not letting the previous result get in the way of going forward and you DID it!

Great story and ty for posting...

Hi everyone. I got my scores and got 79 composite
369/500
63/100. Don't know whether it's a good score or not but this was my first and last attempt. Do I have any hope in any of the dental schools? Part1 was 83 and gpa 3.42

Congrats on passing part II! I have heard it is a very difficult exam. i just started studying for it today and hope i can get that score as most people seem to be failing it.You will get acceptance into dental schools with your stats. I think you should start applying for 2011... Good luck!

Today, I was told by a friend of mine who passed it the second time that his score in every section was lower than the first attempt, but he passed it this time! I'm thinking they are curving the score differently now than they were before 😱

I've not gotten my score (2nd attempt) yet! Waiting impatiently :scared:

Hi Mstoothy..Can u please some tips or advise to me. Please see above. Thanks in advance

I do not know who the author of the pharmacology book is but I can tell you that it may or may not work for you since this book is made for medical students not dental. It is quite advanced book but concise.

My tip- Do not give up, know what your weakness is and tackle on that. Analyze and break it down to subjects and know what you dont know... I already posted in detail what I used in the previous post. Folks, there is no magical way to pass this but to study hard and smart. Take your time, dont rush into taking the next exam. Use all the references you have including old exams, old notes, text books, other review books, even internet!(has a great source of dental info there).

What else can i say... When it's your time, you will pass and move on.

G luck.

hi,just trying to understand the scoring concept for part 2.
what i dont understand is u get ur actual score for both the days so is that ur actual score.i mean say for example u get 400/500 is that ur actual score i.e 80% or is anything added or deleted to that number.

just trying to understand the concept.

also congrats to all those who passed.
@mstoothy---congrats ----so is it a different envelope in size if u pass becoz it has the certificate.

Hi! I will be taking part 2 in a few months and I am about to start studying now. How does the First Aid book compare with Mosby's? Is one of them preffered? I would like to score high - any tips?

Thanks and congrats to everyone who already passed 🙂

i had both and found mosbys to be a much better book and contain helpful info that decks didn't even have. first aid seem to be vague and not as detailed as mosbys, at least that was my experience.

anyone know when ada mails out the score reports each week? how long has the waiting period been for recent exams, like april?

Thanks so much for the info! So Mosbys was good - any other good tips?

Much appreciated

Hi All

Sorry could not log in for a while at sdn forums! Got back from my vacation, had interviewed at a few spots earlier & landed a great postion! wahooooooo
In reply to many PM i received regarding my scores:
day 1 435/500 and day 2 case based 82/100 composite score on 90!!!

Study materials used: Dental school lectures notes/ text books from school/Dental decks/ TUFTS/ mosby/ first aid/ lots of internet sites all the ASDA papers from 1978-2009/ kaplan q bank .. looked up every q that I was not sure about and lots of help from so many people on this great forum I cannot thank them enough!! all my friends from school who were taking part 2/ All I can say is this test was not easy, u have to prepare for it and know your subject really well.
I scored above national mean in all subjects and studied seriously!
Finally done with all my exams, including WREB!
So if anyone wants any help or pointers, I'm more than willing to help!! U CAN DO IT!! DONT GIVE UP Keep the faith!!! Pray to GOD!

Congratulations Star Jasmine..
This is the highest score in part 2 i have come to know in years!
435/500...that shows how brilliant you are...👍

Hi

Did anyone take Part 2 end of April? How was your test.
My friend and me took the test same day and still waiting for the results.
The test was hard and i was repeating the test the 3rd time( same for my friend ) also. Her test was o.k with some repeats.

Will keep u guys posted!👍

Hi Very cool

This is in regards to your pm msg in which you stated that you are worried and depressed about part 2 . Dont worry u have your WREB coming up, concentrate on that and do well.

There is nothing brilliant about working HARD. 👍

For the rest of the pms: I thought I will write here on forum to benefit others also.

U first of all have to make a study plan that this is what you will complete by each week and stick to it! Yes I use to have backlogs but, try and clear that over weekends. Study for atleast 8-10 hours per day and slowly increase your hours, & pace. For the last week of the test, dont sweat it out too much take it easy and lessen your study hours.
Keep notes of all the things that is imp and that you constantly forget. Keep revising those topics.
Exercise and eat well. The day before the test dont study just relax, give your brain some rest since it has to perform a lot the next 2 days!!
Read up all the info u can get your hands on for me it was my class notes from school / decks/ mosby / tufts / asda papers / kaplan q bank/ and most of all HARD WORK and prayers!!!

Hope this helps:luck:
