So word on the street is that the NBDE switch to pass/fail is going to be pushed back another two years such that current D1s will still be getting a score......word on the street came from our schools ADA rep. And our Dean happens to be the ADA prez.....and yet I STILL can't find any solid info on this.

Anybody have more solid resources about this?

How much advance notice are we "entitled" to about our boards (yeah....we're lowly dental students and not entitled to jack, I know). Like can they change it the year before?

"official" resource is this. however its from March and I think it's changed since

http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/act_jcnde.pdf

So envision this
1. we dont get number grades on our board
2. each residency has been encouraged to develop "alternate testing" for their admissions process.....which means applications will cost a hell of a lot more and be infinitely more stressful
3. Parts 1 and 2 are merged into one exam.....so you DONT get to take part 1 when the material is fresh in your mind after year 2. and you DO get to take an even longer test at the same time as youre applying for PASS, taking regionals, thinking about consolidating loans when you graduate, etc.

gee. The ADA really loves their students.

but again, rumor mill says this whole thing has been pushed back a bit more.

If the word came from an ADA rep and your dean's the ADA president, why bother searching for anything more? Must you read it before it clicks in your brain? That minute chance the ADA president is wrong....:scared:

Just had a class meeting with our dean, and he says its pass/fail for us (2012)

As an active poster on all of these NBDE P/F threads (who once though I had it all figured out) I am now as confused as ever. It seems almost every person in my school is convinced it is either one way or the other. I get a different story from ADA reps, ADEA reps, specialty clinic faculty, etc.

I did hear also that there should be another meeting coming up this March (the same one which started all the confusion last March) which should end the discussion once and for all.

Also, earlier I was convinced I wanted the decision to go a certain way, but at this point I could care less and just want a final determination. I am about 1.25 years away from sitting this exam, and the time is ticking.

I feel ya. I hope this whole board speculation ends soon. Enough is enough.

Coincidentally I just got an e-mail from our ADEA rep. Hopefully he doesn't mind me passing this along as he does frequent these boards.

"Many of you are wondering when, and if, the NBDE will change to Pass/Fail. The time frame for when the NBDE will change from a numerical score to P/F is set for 2010; however, I've been told that this is likely going to be moved back (possibly 2011 or later) so that the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations can evaluate the NBDE in more detail. The ADA, ADEA and ASDA are helping to move this process along so that the problems with the NBDE (i.e. cheating, using it as an admission's examination, etc) can be resolved either by changing the format of the test or the score reported (i.e. P/F vs. numerical)."

Haha... I'll take it. 👍

If that tests stays with its graded scoring system come 2010, it won't know what hit it by I get through with it! (Thanks in part to the positive mindset given to me by Dr. Reo).
