Hello guys/gals , its good to be here 🙂 I wanted to share with you all my study schedule and matierals for step II. This is my first post. My ultimate goal is to do well on this examination and apply to oral medicine residencies throughout the country.

Matierals that I will use:

1. Mosby's Review for NBDE II (which I read is awesome)
2. Dental Decks 2004 (I'm wondering if someone can comment on any differences between the newer version and this one)
3. ASDA Released Exams, the most recent versions
4. Kaplan Prep Step II, which includes the book, detailed answers to the last 4 released exams, plus the videos (which I saw one yesterday at the KapCenter and they're pretty informative)
5. Kaplan Qbank 3months

6. Review matierals from Step I from the Kaplan Book

Since I work full time I will study 5 hours a day on the weekdays and 10-12 hrs on the weekends, so I'm thinking about 45 hrs per week
at a minimum, since I'm currently working as science teacher in a public school system I have all national holiday and several long weekends to really put in the time especially in xmas, which I'll have 2 weeks and I'm testing on Jan. 2-3.

The purpose of this thread will be general in nature but I hope to thoroughly review the aforementioned resources in an attempt to help others. I love to teach and I'm hoping to have an academic career in Oral Medicine which I think is an extraordinary and much needed specialty in the US. All we need to do is look around us and we'll see a multitude of patients that are medically compromised in some way, shape, or form ie. Diabetes, heart disease, etc. Anyway, I hope we can have a nice and informative exchange of ideas in this journey that is common to us all.🙂

Hello to everyone, its nice to see some energy in this thread, I've been in the trenches as they say with all step 2 materials and work, its certainly not easy.

Ok, so far I've been reading the Kaplan Book, 1st reading, then Mosbys 1st reading, then reading the Decks thoroughly, then answering questions in the Kaplan qbank and finally doing some old released exam question and answers, "sigh of relief" 😱 and my final analysis is that for "ME" this is working out just fine, its just takes a little bit of time 👍

My plan is to continue with these matierals and then go back and reread, slightly faster the 2nd time around Kaplan and Mosby's and the corresponding decks, I started with Endo and at the same time I'm reviewing Dental Anatomy from Step 1 as well.

How am I scoring ?
Answer: Endo above 85% so far, Dental Anatomy more than 90% (I really like DA, its like a big puzzle in a way, lol)

I hope to post more frequently as well😳

See within, don't let your wallet guide what you want to do, there are so many professionals in the health field that are unhappy with there career paths and imho I think its ridiculous, just look around, the economy is horrible, things are not what they were before, so imagine waking up every morning to work on a field you don't really like, food for though, those are just my 2 cents. I'm trying to keep my dream alive regardless of money and yes I do have student loans to repay, just remember the old tenant "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," and that means a lot to me.

Good luck in your studies.
