Hello all,
I have just started my nbde preps and im planning to appear for part 1 in april 2013.
can anyone please guide me as to how and what to start studying first?
which material is a must to be read and whether i will need to hit my textbooks again?
your help and advice will be much appreciated.
Kindly take 2 mins out to help me here.
thank you.

Kaplan, board busters. Plus there are some good smart phone/tablet apps out there. Don't do dental decks. Overrated and a hassle to carry, better off getting a flashcard app for your phone.

Hi All,

I hold a B.D.S degree from India. I graduated 10 years ago and then practiced for 2 years. I changed my career after that and have not been in touch with dentistry since then. Now I am thinking of getting back to dentistry. I am planning to take my NBDE I in March or April 2013. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can give me some suggestions on the books and study materials to refer to. I have all my text books from the time I did my dentistry. I also have dental decks and First Aid from 2003. I know they will be outdated but will they be of any use at all?

Also can you please tell me how much time I should give myself to prepare completely for the exam given the long gap that I have had? Is aiming for March too early?

I also have a full time job and have to study after I get back from work.

Looking forward to some guidance.

Thanks and I would appreciate any feedback.

hello everyone,
I am also preparing for the exam and aiming to take it in april 2013.This is a good source to get the information regarding the exam and keep each other updated.....🙂
Good luck everyone

hi all..
i gave my part1 and got my result..its a pass! i studied for 6 months and my advice would be just stick to the decks and asda papers,But to solve all the case related questions you gott2b more than well prepared.it was not very easy but definitely u can pass.u have to be smart while reading, giving equal attention to all the subjects. im always here to help you all,do lemme know if anybody needs sometn

hi dentistabhi
u might want to start with decks first..give urself 2 weeks for that..you will forget and not know anytn even after 2 weeks..thats how its gonna begin,it will get better,as n when u start doing it over n over again.mark my words, u will nver remember anything wen u start so never worry about that.u will have to use wheelers for dental anatomy. netlas atlas ,kaplan review for occlusion and wikipedia for certain things and definitions

hey dinadent. i m starting my nbde preparation now. so like how much time should i spend each day or each week. and which subject would be better to start with. also i m doing mph so i have to attend coll also.

i would say..start with 4 or 5 hours and slowly increase ur studying hours up to 10.week before the exam u should be able to feel relaxed and confident..sice its a day long exam,u have to work on it.i started with micro then dental anatomy, anat n biochem..biochem was my weakest

hey dinadent....congrats for your results....🙂
I'm gonna take the exam in april 2013.Currently reviewing kaplans notes and dental decks for all subjets.
Suggest me what should i follow during the last three months of my preparation to have sure success.?

Thanks jheetey! Make a schedule and stick to it. Dont attempt anything new or new sources. decks, kaplan, asda papers and first aid! These are the primary sources. Try to increse the studying hours .

oh thank you dinadent....i'll try to do my best...🙂
Sometimes for certain topics i consult my textbooks too but thats time consuming also.Is it ok to see your textbooks at certain points or it is just time wastage?

referring to books is not bad as long as it does not direct to some other topic. Problems with referring to other sources is ,you will never be satisfied to one information..so clear your doubts ,close your books immediately and then move on.Dont worry you are gonna do fine..best wishes

Hello dinadent,
Can you let me know whether you had any ASDA repeats? which book did you refer for biochem? Also, did you follow any medical review books also? Do let me know.
thanks

hi..dinadent ,I have KAPLAN REVIEW book,ASDA PAPERS,DECKS.But I don't have First Aid.Then should I get First Aid?Pleaseeeee Post your reply.....!!

Hello Maggi2510,
I think it's worth getting First Aid also. If you have time then you can also go through NBDE Mastery .I found it helpful. Hope this helps.

Ok,,Thank you so much.!!!!Then may be I will order it.And I saw 3RD edition on amazon. Is there any new edition available?Or edition doesn't matter a lot.???

You're welcome. NBDE mastery is a latest app that can be bought from apple app store. Hope this helps.

Hey VNY,
You can find more info about nbde study materials in previous year posts. You can search and find them. But some of the best preps are nbde dental decks, first aid, kaplan review book, dentessentials, and asda papers. If you want to brush up the basics after long time, then you can refer textbooks. Yes, i would agree that certain mobile apps are helpful but you must choose the right one. Most of these apps don't have correct answers and you should choose one carefully. I would recommend NBDE mastery as its questions are very much similar to the exam question pattern and most importantly, it has correct answers. It is available for just $20 at apple store and the best if you're fine with mobile apps. Hope this helps.

You need to stop promoting an app that hasn't been used to pass the exam. You've written all over the forums about this app. Apps are never useful for an exam like this. For everyone else stick to the basics and don't waste your time looking for a great app because there is none.

Hi DINADENT
I am having problem studying Biochemistry and Microbiology.
Meaning Starting straight from decks is confusing me a lot.
How do I start with those?
Which books for that?
I am planning on giving exam in April.
