NBDE is not "scrapped out" as you put it. They are changing the eligibility requirements. Foreign Dentists may not be able to take it. You'll have to stay tuned for more info.

Eligibility Requirements for International Dentists: The Joint Commission approved of
an eligibility policy change for internationally trained dentists. Once dentists who graduated
from a non-accredited dental school are enrolled in a predoctoral dental program in the
United States, they must request eligibility from the dental school dean where they are
enrolled in order to be eligible to take the National Board examinations.

There is currently no plan to combine the Parts 1 and 2.[/color]

Well, it looks like NBDE will not be a requirement for admission anymore for FTDs, schools will have to change their admission requirements, and may be come up with their own written exam requirements, and then when you apply to and get accepted in a school you become eligible to take the NBDE which you will need t take anyway for licensure.

If you are planning to apply in 2009,The old process still holds. Beyond that, probably (guess that) schools will have their own requirements, written exam, dexterity tests etc.

That's right. Theoretically.
If you are trying to apply to as many schools as possible, then-
assuming that deadlines will remain the same, Sept 2nd for most CA schools and Sept 15th for several others, the latest you want to take is late July to early August. It takes 3 weeks or so to get the scores, and you need the margin of error, especially if you don't live in the US.
