ICO just received the results for part III...ICO was perfect. You read it right, 100% pass. I don't know how the other schools did, but everyone usually does pretty well.

If you fail part III, you should be immediately booted out of school.

Considering you don't get your scores until after you graduate, that may be hard to enforce.

That is an excellent point. Maybe they should have booted me out of school. How about you get one shot at part III and if you fail, you're screwed?

I believe then entire boards system needs to be re-worked. The fact that it took from mid April until June 28 (I think) to get me the score from off my scantron...that is compete BS. You should be able to put the scantron through the computer as you leave and your score should pop out. They have been giving this test long enough that they know how much the scores will need to be adjusted. If you are on the fence, then they can review it, but if you get over a 400 and passing is 300, it does not matter how much they adjust the score, there is no way your score could drop to failing.

Clinical boards should be in February and your scores should be released in March. That way the students could be marketing themselves for about 2 months for potential jobs. Otherwise, you are going up to people and saying, "I am graduating in May, but I won't know if I passed boards until the end of June. If I did not pass, I can take it again August. We won't know if I passed that one for at least 2-3 months after that. Then it will take anywhere from 1 week to a months to get my license. Once I get that, we can apply for my NPI and DEA. Those should be here pretty quick. That trick will be getting all the insurances companies and Medicare to accept me. That will take another 1-6 months. So, if you hire me, I will absolutely be able to see patients as soon as 9-10 months with out you around. So...do you want to hire me!?! By the way, in order for me to pay back my loans and live, you need to pay me about 70k. I know you only make 120k, and that would be more than 50% of your salary and I won't actually make you any money until I increase revenue by about 150k. I would really love to work for you."

Or you could say, "I already passed all my boards and filled all the paper work with the state. As soon as I graduate, the school will send the state confirmation and my license will be here in just a few weeks." The rest of the stuff is the same, but at least the variable you control is done.

I like this idea. I also think its a joke that I had to sit around for the last two months waiting for the NBEO to release a score on a test that anyone at the bottom of the class should be able to pass easily. Like you said, they should somehow score it on the spot (or within a week or so) and if you get a certain score or above, you pass. Then they can play with the numbers all they want and send out revised scores later.

NBEO part 3 is a joke. Who cares if you can use a BIO, or fundus lens. Take the kansas boards (or any other board focusing on a disease proficiency) where they ask you to use these techniques with Disease patients and to interpret your results.

SCO was 99%... the one person got a 298 from my understanding. Bummer.
