Is NBEO similar to OAT in terms of the difficulty? When do most optometry students take NBEO part 1?

Thanks

Not really. Apples to oranges. It's taken around March of 3rd year.

agreed, 2 different tests with different topics. Part 1 is offered twice a year (march/august).

Its impossible to tell you how "hard" it is, because of the expansive array of topics covered...everything is fair game on boards!

It's completely different.
There were at least a few members from my class who never studied for the OAT and just took it after undgrad. classes...I don't think anybody was brave enough to do that for boards.
Not to mention the fun "select 5 out of 8 of these multiple choices" on nbeo now

I guess it depends on the student somewhat, but I bet you would have a very hard time finding anyone that said the OAT was harder.

For Boards, you're just trying to pass ( 60-70% correct responses). Time isn't a factor on Boards - pretty much you either know it or you don't . Huge scope of material - There will be more than a few questions that you just don't know and a lot of educated guessing.

Yeah and somebody else said it - these new multiple response (pick the best 5 of 9) questions will humble you.

Good luck to everyone getting scores tomorrow.
